I simply will not buy lithium until they are much lower in price. Also, unless they are American made, forget it. Anyone else agree?

Add me too ! ! !
How much are they now? They have been out for over 10 years. Have the price dropped any?
+ another.
Never had a single issue with a lead acid that is properly maintained. I get deep cycle rebuilt 29 series batteries from a local battery place here for $53 each.

Best investment I have made in fishing in the last 5 years. Totally worth the $ for me.
Not for me.
The cost, weight differential and having to re-balance boat. The country that owns most of the worlds lithium mines, how they remove it from the ground and those who they often "use" to remove it, the environmental damage done in removing it, very little recycling infrastructure once the batteries are used up, and lack, on my part, unfounded or not, about their safety etc.. So, no thanks.
No one can be wrong that often so it has to be deliberate.
I wont be.buying one to much money for me spend at this time.
1. cost wise, you have to do the math. In 10 years you'd use 2-3 good AGM batteries, let's say two. That's $1000 for 2 Group 31 X2s. You can get a pretty decent starter lithium for $1000 that is guaranteed for 10 years. So, in my mind cost isn't a factor. Some guys like Walmart Batteries. There you're going to pay $100-$150 and replace every 3 years, minimum. So, maybe $450 for 9 years. Say $500 for the full 10 years. Certainly cheaper and some guys don't mind pulling batteries out and adding water, knowing they got a bargain and can sometimes get a warranty return from Walmart. Great, go for it. Doesn't suit me.
2. Doubtful they will every be manufactured in the US. Assembled yes but manufactured, never, we don't have the raw materials, cheap enough labor force, and environmental regs will never allow it.
I hear your arguments and like that you have made a decision but based on your criteria, I think the OP will never have LiFePO batteries in his boat! Hope this is taken the correct way, it's not meant to be a dig at anyone.
One post was critical of the environmental effects of mining lithium. Is lead mining any less environmentally friendly? At least it can be recycled but let's be honest neither is a "clean" process. Oh and the country that produces the most lithium is also the country with the biggest lead mining!

I’ve not priced them either, but what does one cost that would replace your normal 31 group lead acid???. At least ballpark price.
A really good starter battery with a warranty and a suitable charger will be around $1000

I have no problem getting 5-7 years out of my regular batteries so from a cost standpoint it doesn’t make sense for me. I also get deals on regular batteries so for me that sweetens the pot. I am not doubting any companies, especially sponsors here but I will be curious down the road to see how they hold up to the 10 year warranties. For where I live, how I fish and how well regular batteries last there just isn’t a need. If I lived down south or tournament fished maybe I would. They sure aren’t cheap tho. (The “good” ones at least).

I'll wait a few more years.
"The man of system is apt to be very wise in his own conceit; and is often so enamored with the supposed beauty of his own ideal plan of government that he cannot suffer the smallest deviation from any part of it…He seems to imagine that he can arrange the different members of a great society with as much ease as the hand arranges the different pieces upon a chessboard.” Adam Smith, The Theory of Moral Sentiments
Having to also buy a new charger is a consideration holding me back, for now. When my lead acid batteries for he trolling motor bite the dust I will have to make the decision.
Is that true? Just 1 lithium starting battery that is used to start your engine and run electronics cost $1,000 with a charger. Seems ridiculously expensive to me when a really good cranking battery cost less than $250 and will last 4-6 years.
In addition to that you still need multiple Lithium deep cycle batteries. How much does this hole package cost for a 24v or 36v trolling motor?

I wouldn't buy them or run them until they are more reliable........
Yep, until they are pretty much the same cost as lead batteries I see no reason to buy them if I need new batteries. Lead batteries have plenty of capacity for the way I use them. My boat is not overloaded and I have enough strength to swap them out myself if needed.
I not had an issue with conventional batteries. I'm not gonna run out andcswap out perfectly good battery. In the future when it's time to replace what I have I might consider them. I am not gonna pay 3 times the cost of conventional batteries to do so though.
