Just a little heads up for the guys heading to Falcon

This is from the Falcon Lake Tackle website, which, by the way is one of the best around.

February 25, 2010: Hey Folks.. Consider this a Public Service Announcement. There is a lot of unrest in the Mexican towns just across the border from us right now. I hear that the towns of Mier, and Nuevo Guerrero have had some major gun battles in the streets the last week or so, and as recently as yesterday. We hear that there have been a lot of folks killed. Of course Nuevo Guerrero is the town on the south bank of the Salanaias, just across the lake from the state park area. You're all grown boys and girls, so you can make your own decisions. But it might be prudent to avoid areas where you are more likely to run into any trouble. And I would think that populated areas would be the most likely areas where that could occur.

I am sure you have heard something about all this on the news, especially if you live in South Texas. As for me, I'm fishing the Texas side for a while. I'll keep my ear to the ground for more details and let you know what I hear.. And hopefully this will settle down very soon.

Thats all we need now is start carrying Ak's or some kind of heat just to go fishing. The reality is that those guys arent serial killers or random shooters like we have here they know who they are shooting at and have their reasons for shooting them. Yes bystanders do get hit by stray bullets now and then but it happens here also, even while hunting. They got bigger problems to worry about over there and they know very well the fall out that would come if they started picking off defenseless bass fishermen. I wouldnt recommend beaching and hanging out overthere but yes we are grown ups.

Think I will fish my area lakes. I haven't heard of people shooting each other on the lake shores

    Exactly.

I'm not worried one bit, we fished on the Mexico side at Amistad and Falcon last weekend.

About the only thing you have to worry about is gill nets.

I am more concerned with the drunk illegals driving the streets of central Texas killing innocent people. The chances of running into one of them is probably 100% higher.

Just thought if the guys that live down there thought it was important enough to post on their website, maybe we should pass the word.

Re: Just a little heads up for the guys heading to Falcon (10 lbs or bust)

I don't think it's worth cancelling your trip to the lake. There's plenty of good water on the Tx. side to fish where you'll be just fine.

Choke is a great lake, but it's not Falcon.

If you go to Choke don't stay at the Bass Inn.
