    High School Fishing Fundraiser

Saw this posted publically on Facebook today. A high school fishing team is looking for pledges to raise travel money to go to fishing tournaments. They are going to "flip" for 30 minutes and you pay them per successful flip. So they can go fishing on your dime. For real.

Hey, I'm not against raising money for anything at all .... travel softball, your teacher's new baby, someone's wedding, new benches on the soccer field, whatever...but how about do something meaningful to earn that money. Maybe rakes leaves in the Fall, carwash in the Summer, bake sale in the Winter, babysit in the Spring? But "flip" for 30 minutes????? So you can travel an fish?

These kids have no future if they get catered to in this manner!

The problem is they made all this stuff about groups making money not the kids. It's hilarious when teams travel 3 states away to play the same teams they play here. It makes zero sense.

We’ve had kids approach us for donations because they had an opportunity to play basketball, baseball, wrestle, run track or attend a cheerleading clinic in some foreign country. They claimed that it would a great reflection back on our community because they were chosen to represent their country.

The Real Story is anyone who puts up the bucks can go on one of these Sports Trips and it’s just a Money Making Racket. My response has been if you want to take a fun summer trip work a part time job and pay for it yourself.

So if those aspiring High School Bass Fishermen flipping at a target expecting to be compensated for it can do the same maybe they ought to do a car wash instead. I did make a donation to the HS track team for each mile the student we sponsored ran in a 24 hr period. It was a fun event for those who pledged not sure how much fun it was for the kids who ran.

I don't know how parents afford to have kids anymore. All of these travel sports have to eat up every dime that they have, just so that the majority of them won't get a scholarship or go pro...

As far as the fishing stuff goes, this seems like a good lesson for these kids that tournament bass fishing is rich man's game. They'll learn that what they put together worked as far as getting money for their endeavors, or they need better and innovative ideas, which will help them in pursuing a career in fishing. If they don't want a career in fishing, they'll learn that they better get pretty good jobs to afford their hobby. Something tells me that this fundraiser will not go well, but maybe they'll come up with a better idea for next time.

I have one that plays Softball and another that plays baseball. My sons team is always trying to do fundraisers. I hate it. It’s my kid I put him in it and I should be in the hook for all of it. Can’t stand these parents that are always trying to save $500 so their kid can play a sport. If the team needs more money raise the rate, pretty simple. Same with these kids, get a job, make some lures, build some rods or have Mom and Dad pay for it.

you can thank the fishing industry for this. Its all about selling a product. I considered helping with a high school team, but the way they like to travel far away makes it to expensive for me and for some parents who cant afford it also.

100% agree. Pay for your own kids activities.
