    ETEC Warm Up

I was curious...when I drop the boat in and start taking it off the trailer, should I let the engine ('08 200HP ETEC) warm up a certain amount of time?

I let mine warm up to 125-130 degrees before putting it into gear.

In cold weather, ya need to let 'em warm up pretty good before ya hammer 'em. It don't hurt to put them in gear and idle around, just warm them up before ya blast off on sustained runs. I'll usually warm mine up while running the troller to the dock to pick up partner and waiting for blast off.JMHO

It is best to let any engine warm up before you put the hammer to it.

Funny,I hear Bassmeister cranks his up when he leaves the house & lets it get goood & warmed by time he gets to the ramp.

We have a very popular spring tournament in these parts where you can run 60 miles with ease each way. Been more than one motor get what we affectionately call 'cold seized' on the cold morning run because they did not idle their motor long enough before blasting off on the long run. Water temps at that time are like 45 to 55 most years.

The way we discuss it is that when running under load the the piston/rings heat up faster than the cold block surrounded by cold water. Result is a binding and seizure of that cylinder. Comes on as decrease in power and a knock afterwards.

If it is something else I'd like to know but it has indeed happened many times at this same event.
