I might be looking at a boat with a mid 90's 200xp. In general were these decent motors?

It is an XP, it is more than likely it will be an early 90's motor, I think they changed it over the vindicator by the mid 90's. It was still pretty much the same engine.
Burning the candle at both ends.
I have a 90 xp200, on a 201pro stratos I bought the boat a year ago so far no major problems. Just a couple for minor things that needed attention. Plugs, thermostats and diaphrams, fuel filter. New cranking battery and cables. A little cold natured but not to bad. I love this thing even though it is old.
Prior owner used premium plus penzoil and seafoam. So I am continuing the same.
2 people and load 20gal fuel it runs 60gps. But sure does drink the gas though. Does better on fuel between 4800-5200 rpms. These are the cheaper engine to rebuild due to carbs not injected. More places can work on them, when it goes I will go to a 225. Good Luck and happy hunting.
It\'s a dog eat dog world out there and I\'m wearing milk bone underwear! \"Norm Peterson\" Cheers.
I bought a used 1997 Nitro 896 Savage with a 93-94 200XP and LOVE IT! this is one strong motor, the original owner had a problem with the motor new, Rude replaced the head with a 225 head, I got the package a few years later. it runs 67mph(gps) loaded with two people and a 24 shooter prop. at half throttle 4,000 rpm I get GREAT gas milage, this thing is hardly purring and I am still at 40mph! Made one blunder two years ago and took a freinds advice to try NKG plugs....DON'T ,,,they blew the power pack!!!! stick with Champs and all things are good.....
