    Headed towards Houston-good nearby fishing?

Taking the dog and Cajun down to Houston for the holiday to visit friends. Which lake(s) should I visit? Seems Lake Houston would be a good choice but looking to the locals for advice...

Try Conroe or Fayette County. Fayette would be my first choice, but a little further away.

By all accounts, Lake Houston's a mud hole. I've got a buddy who used to run trot lines for catfish on there regularly, but never fished for bass. Conroe is supposed to be a great lake, but Fayette's my favorite lake and I highly recommend it.

Fayette County, Conroe, or Huntsville State Park. All three of these are good, with Fayette being great, Conroe good, and Huntsville State Park being great. HSP is an idle speed only lake. Our Federation Tournament was on Conroe this last Saturday and was won with a 20 pound sack of four fish.

Conroe is close, but boat traffic on the holiday will be incredible! I was there for a little while on Sunday afternoon and you walk across Caney Creek on the ski boats and jet skis.

RowdyRanger, what a string! I only live 31 miles from the ramp at Scott's Ridge and 42 from Cagle. I plan on fishing Conroe a lot this summer, probably in the evenings and early mornings before all of the tourists and rookies get there.

    Rcautox, enjoy the trip!

Conroe has been fishing very well, has a 16" limit though. 2 14lb bass out of that lake last year. Fayette, is just plain fun,. it a slot lake, meaning most fish are between 14"-24". Its your best chance for numbers, and size catching 5 fish that will weight over 20lbs is no big deal.

I like lake Houston for Bass, it does get muddy and crowded though. Luces Bayou is decent.

I imagine with the memorial day weekend, and all the first time out boaters,Conroe and Lake Houston will be a zoo.

I understand Conroe is real good at night too. Shouldn't have to worry about the crowds that way.
