ChampionMan or Gearcaseman! lower unit , bearing housing?

I just finished resealing lower unit on my 94 Intruder E150GLERA. The manual says to put a sealing compound behind the oring on the front of the housing well I forgot to. Should I pull it back out and do this or not? I just do not see that it would help because you have a greased oring going in first, that is going to make the surface of the casing greasy and the compound would not stick anyway. But if either of you tell me I need to, I will be all over it! Also a local shop where I bought the parts told me to use anti seize instead of loctite on the two bolts holding housing in. Which do you use?

IMHO as long as you used a new O ring your fine.

I did the same thing. I stared at it for 45 minutes after I had it together trying to decide whether or not to pull it apart again. In the end I left it together. No leakes, but I'm not a lower unit guru, i was probably just lucky.

I think you did fine. Grease is all I ever use on the O ring front and back. If you are the one that takes a gearcase apart after using a sealing compound on the front O ring, you'll wish you had'nt. This is a real mess to clean up. As long as your housing is not out of tolerance, you'll be fine.

Oh yeah, pertaining to your second question, I like a little dab of loctite on these bolts.

I did as well, I pulled them back out, cleaned them and loctite!
    Thanks
