250 DI cuts out shifting to reverse

Hi,

I have a 2001 250 Evinrude DI/Ficht. I just bought this engine it runs fine and I am really happy with my self rigging. I believe in doing all my own work whenever possible.
I have one concern with the engine, it cuts out when shifting to reverse. It only does this after running for a while, and if I shift back to forward and reverse again, like when manuvering, it does not cut out. Is this something that I should be able to adjust the shift cable to get rid of??

mine does the same thing. i was told it was the neural safety switch problem

Thanks for that, did they happen to say what needs to be done to stop this? If its just a new part thats easy.

Your shift cable may need to be adjusted. It may not be pushing far enough into reverse which could cause the shift interrupt switch to stay activated which kills ( I believe ) 3 of the cylinders while shifting.
