I will be moving to Lyles, in Hickman County this summer. I am wondering what I will need to do to get a concealed carry permit?

Take a class and then submit the paperwork along with the fee. Assuming you pass the background check, and I assume you would b/c most criminals don't bother to get permitted, it shouldn't be much of a hassle.![]()

Once you get into a class and pass the simple shooting and written test, they will give your a form. You will take that form to the nearest driver testing center where you will apply for your permit. They will take your photo and you will pay the fees and prove citizenship and residency status. You will then need to take your forms and go to a fingerprint facility which they will direct you to. This could be a copy shop or whatever. They will scan your prints and they will be forwarded to the state electronically. Then you will wait for 30 to 90 days for the background checks to be completed.
If all that goes ok, you'll get what looks like a drivers license sized card in the mail with your picture on it !!

There is a good site that I recommend - http://www.tngunowners.com It is sort of like the BBC for TN gun owners. You can get a lot more info there and find out what is going on in TN as far as 2nd amendment rights, best gun shops, ranges, IPDA matches and so on.
Good luck with that and glad you're joining us in TN!![]()

+1 on this. Duane has it nailed all the way. I just finished my class this past weekend and I'm headed to the driver center tomorrow to fill out the paperwork for the permit. Very easy to do.

Geez ain't that the truth. I had to drive 45 minutes to get there and then they tell me they can't take my debit card because the card reader was down. Raced to the bank to get some cash and barely made it back in time. Fingerprinted today. Looking forward to being a LEGAL weapon owner.

You could always own a handgun. You just could not carry it concealed legaly. But as most folks are not comfortable with people walking around with unconcealed sidearms it is better to keep it under a coat or jacket.
I had a lady up here in Maine call the cops on me one time because I was carrying a side arm. She was really freaked out. I think she was from NYC or Jersey. Anyway when the responding officer explained to her that it was leagle to carry a side arm in Maine she wanted to go home. I wished her a safe trip homeand was on my way. After an almost hour long delay
. I have never carryed a noncocealed handgun since.
I have carryed a handgun almost all of my adult life. I am raedy willing and able to use it if needed.
As the saying goes, Better to have it and not need it. Than to need it and not have it.
Times are getting worse. Bad things are happening all around us every day. Be ready. Its kinda like ol Hank said A Country Boy Can Survive![]()

I've always had one and carried it in my vehicle. I felt like I should probably make the plunge and be legal.
