    Occoquan Reservoir help

Never fished here before and planning on going next weekend.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

If I wasn't lost, I'd surely know where I was going!

    Re: Occoquan Reservoir help (smith64a)

I'm not the local expert, but have done well there a few times this year. Fished it three times the past week and it has been tough relative to July and August. I'm not about to give up any specific spots on a public forum either. I can tell you one community spot to try is Ryan's dam, not far from the Fountainhead launch. Ignore the visible remains of the dam on the PW county side and find shad schools w/ your graph or eyes (often bass will chase them to the surface) closer to the Fairfax side. I find a swim jig or scrounger works well here, just be patient enought to let it fall a bit. In general, stay on the main portion of the reservoir and ignore the smaller tribs and coves. I don't think the fish have moved up into these spots yet. The larger tribs like Sandy and Hooes may be alright. Get the GMCO map, and good luck.
