I've been shoveling snow to clear a path for the boat for 2 nights after work, in hopes of getting out tomorrow afternoon for a few hours. I'm going crazy waiting for the weather to break. But as I was shoveling last night it occurred to me that I better find out if Smallwood has even plowed so I can get to the ramp. I'm glad I did.
I called Smallwood and the ramp is closed. I was told the creek is iced over but that has to just be the shallow area around Smallwood. So my next thought was Slavins or Nanjemoy. They are calling for WNW 14 mph with gusts to 29 tomorrow (Saturday) so I figured with only a few hours to fish, I'd stay in a creek.
I called Charles County and was told there has been a dredging project ongoing in Nanejomy creek and they have been using the ramp for all the equipment (I didn't think to ask about where or why they are dredging there-wish I had). They said the county should have plowed the road but because of all the equipment in the area around the ramp, it is "pretty gnarly". I was given the impression that it probably wasn't a good idea to use the ramp. He was uncertain about the area around the ramp, like parking and what equipment might be there.
So the next call was to the town of Indian to check on Slavin's. I was told that the ramp area is not clear. Even if the ramp was clear I doubt the small parking area at the top of Hill is clear.
I thought about calling Ft. Washington Marina to see if they were open but with the winds they are projecting and the limited amount of time I might be able to get out, its just not worth it. The boat will have to stay in the garage another week.
Just thought I'd share in case anyone else was thinking of trying to get out.
