Anyone fish the upper Chesapeake Bay??

I am comming to fish the Chesapeake Bay out of Cecil Co. Maryland, around the middle of April. Any help, general info on this body of water would be a big help to me. I would be happy to share any info on KY Lake or any of the waters I'm familiar with in return.

    Thanks,

    Sean

    Sean,

I fish that area about a dozen times a year. Do you have a Lowrance GPS Unit and a map card for the area? You need to know the area to run safely.

When are you going out? I can put together some trails that you can follow for safe navigation. I can download them to my computer and email them to you. You can then save them to an SD card and import them to your unit. The tricky part is navigating the Susquehanna Flats area. During high tide you can run a good bit in the area but during low tide you need to be careful.

I can get you the safe navigation trials for the Susquehanna Flats as well as waypoints to areas that hold fish. I should be able to download these to my computer and send them via email. You can then save them to an SD card and put them on your system.

Have you ever fished the Flats area before?

    Re: (Kris481VS)

    Kris,

I'll be going out on the Upper Bay within the next week or so depending on the weather. I'll run the trails around the Susquehanna Flats and will mark some areas. These areas are not secrets but normally hold good fish. I can send you the saved trails but they will be in Lowrance format. I'm pretty sure you can convert these with a free utility which will allow them to work on your Humminbird.

Where are you launching for the tournament?

How hard is Aquia creek to navigate? I normally get down to the Potomac a hand full of times a year and normally stay around Mattawoman, Chicamuxen, Leeysylvania, etc. I have never fished Aquia and would love to learn some new water.

once inside aquia, its relatively easy to navigate.
when coming from of the main river be careful around the big point at the mouth of the creek. it is very shallow pretty far out from the tip of the point. there should be a marker you'll want to look for and go around that should guide you into the channel.
if your there on a busy day in the spring, the channel will probably be marked with boats. lol.

Fishin Jim thanks for that as you are absolutly right.. Just watch the buoy to you right and literally the place is packed so if anything watch the boat traffic. It's pretty deep in Aquia shouldn't have much problem. Just watch the no Wake buoys further up the creek.

    Thanks,

I think the first time I'll launch from the ramp inside Aquia rather than making the trip from Mattawoman. I just want to learn new water without tearing up my boat.

Rich - IM sent. Would like a copy of the navigation waypoints if able. I'll be there for the BWS in May too and would like to know the best way to run the flats. Thanks. Richard

Guys I sent the Upper and Lower Bay GPS Trail to your email address listed in your profile. The trails are in Lowrance Format and need to be converted for Humminbird.

I'll get back to you in a few days with scanned maps and fishing spots for these areas.

Re: Anyone fish the upper Chesapeake Bay?? (R1Peacock)

I just sent the GPS Trails as well as a 6 page detailed map showing areas that hold fish in the Upper Bay / Susquehanna Flats area. Each page details a specific area or creek.

When you guys look over my map take a look at the area also using Yahoo Maps (Satellite View).

Let me know how you guys do.

Re: Anyone fish the upper Chesapeake Bay?? (R1Peacock)

Hey Rich - and all -

I'm coming down next Friday (April 10th) for a little over a week. I've never been to the bay before so I have some learning to do. I want to learn the flats but don't want to lose a lower unit doing it. Know what I mean? Any tips?

I'd love to borrow those trails and maybe return some Lake Champlain spots or favors for your trouble. Any information you guys can provide is appreciated.

Also, I have room in the back of the boat next weekend if anyone is just dying to get out and put a bend in a rod.

I can't for the life of me figure out how to upload your trails onto my Lowrance 17m and 332c. What am I doing wrong? I put them on an SD card, put the card in the unit, and then what do I need to do?

    thanks!

Re: Anyone fish the upper Chesapeake Bay?? (CShaver8)

    No problem....

If the .usr file is on the SD card you simply need to upload the data to your unit. Depending on the model it may be a little different. Here is a step by step for the 332.

    Press in order
    Menu
    Menu
    System Setup
    Ent
    Transfer My Data
    Ent

At this point a question should appear "Transfer data which way?"

To load the data choose the load option and press Ent.

At this point the .usr file should be seen in the drop down menu. Highlight the .usr file you want to load and press Ent. Press the down button and select Load Data then Ent. The file should then load to your unit.

Once completed you can take the SD card out and put your map card back in the unit. Navigate to the area of the Upper Chesapeake Bay and you should see the trails. Make sure to turn off the add to trail option on the unit so you do not over write my trail while you are using it to navigate the area.

You can download the manual from the Lowrance Website. Transfering files is explained on page 132 and 133 of the LMS-332C Manual.

Contact me direct if you need more help.
