    Etec 175 Help Needed

    2007 Etec 175 HP
    E175DPSUF -- 05194220
    21P Raker II
    2008 Ranger 188

With the boat loaded, myself (210#), full on oil & fuel, livewells empty. The holeshot 3300 RPM at 9 -12 seconds. Mid range speed feels OK, topend 52 MPH 5300 RPM, 3.5” below pad.

With a partner add 230# and my topend drops to 48 – 50 and the holeshot is 12 – 15 seconds, everything else is the same. My question is does this all seem right? I’m 12 MPH slower on topend and way slower on plane than my friends 188 with a different brand. He is running a 23P.

Is there such a thing as getting a Etec rep to ridein this I would like to hear from the that this is what is or is not expected. Any ideas or help is appreciated. My dealer has given up he says that is the best the rig can do. My rig runs best speed with almost no sign of a tail.

If you need more information let me know

No jackplate? I don't know what RPM that engine should be in but 5500 - 5600 might be the RPM to shoot for???

The engine could be burried?...I know you are at 3.5 below but maybe 3 is the magic number? If no jackplate maybe come up one hole, take a measurement of prop to pad and run it. I would check the water pressure like hawk just to make sure it's ok.

I knwo if I burry my engine to 3.5 I can't turn my props for nothing. I raise up the engine to where my sweet spot is and Whamo there is my speed and RPMs.

Just some ideas as there are guys on here that know WAY more than I do. You'll get your answer soon enough.

I would think you need at least a 23 on yours possibly 24. The only thing confusing me is you should be turning a lot more rpm with that 21 and holeshot should be great with that prop! I do not know what kind of boat your friend has but you can't compare apples to oranges. I would post this over on the prop page!

    JoePA,

Sorry forgot to mention it does have a 6" manual jackplate installed. The dealer delivered the boat with the prop 4.5" below the pad and I have been moving it up 1/4" at a time. Water pressure is fine ... guess I could keep going until 2.5" below the pad.

I bought a 22P just for this boat and I can't even get the 21P to turn the RPMs. Guess I can keep going up until I see the WP start down and adjust from there.

I posted a few figures on the setup page they indicated it should be doing better. They suggest it could just be weak -- just my luck! I just can't get it to dialin I have been running the rig for 5 months now my patience it getting thin with the shrug-off from the dealer.

I was comparing my speed and holeshot to another 08 188 with a 175 HPDI on it he is turning a 24P just fine

Re: Etec 175 Help Needed (swat)

i have a 2008 188vx with a 175 johnson, 6" hydro plate, turning a 22 raker 5800 rpms, i weigh 265 lbs. the prop shaft needs to be 3 1/2 to 3 3/4 below the pad to run top speed. have just changed my lower unit, below are my numbers with two people, tournament load. hope this helps. i can tell you that this model has a lot of forward weight. so you need alot of lift.
with magnum gearcase- 55.4 mph at 5600 rpm's
with lightning gearcase- 60.9 mph at 5800 rpm's.

don, you may want to let your dealer check the motor at wide open, a friend of mine had his only reaching 3/4 from the factory. it was a hot foot problem. it was fixed at a flw series event, and the boat runs very well now.
