I am interested in getting some info on this lake. My son moved to New Philidelphia two years ago and I have been passing this lake, and wanting to fish it.
I don't plan on fishing any tournaments....just some fun fishing with my boy, although down the road it may happen. Just looking into what to use and what size fish to expect. Any info would be appreciated.
Tappan gets lots of pressure both from tournaments and pleasure boating.It is unlimited horsepower (399 max) so you will see plenty of jet skis,water skiers and larger pleasure craft.
Even with the high pressure,it is pretty good fishing for both bass and saugeye as well.The panfish seem to run on the small side,but there are some big catfish to be caught if that's your thing.
Tappan has a variety of water to fish,the bays (which are no wake) offer old roadbeds,docks,large flats,laydowns,and some timber as well as plenty of rip-rap.The main lake offers plenty of off shore structure to concentrate on and also has plenty of rock,wood and brush.
I have fished plenty of tourny's there which have taken 10-15lb (5 fish) to win and have caught lots of bass there over the years with the size seeming to improve over the last few years.
