I went there today just to get used to the Triton and play with the HDS. Man it was windy. I did not fish any.
Water....about 3.5 ft low.
Temp....66.2
Clarity....the wind made it real stained.
Safety.....Water low...but I put in at Ledge Rock...hammered to New Light. I woulda went all the way down but that HDS was losing bottom as soon as I got on plane so I went where I knew. I think it would be even safer putting in at Upper Barton (just be aware of the hump at the main lake entrance) but putting in at Ledge Rock was a piece of cake. I would not recommend going up thru Cheek Rd area...but I never think that is a good idea anyhow unless you really know it. If you have a GPS or a good lake map....you will be fine for the rest of the lake.
Falls Lake as everyone knows....you have to stay in the river channel when on pad anyhow just to be safe.
I cannot see how it would be unsafe to have a tourny there right now. If putting in a Ledge Rock, just go across to the other side of the lake from the ramp and follow the channel. Don't be a Ski Boat wanna be and go straight across the middle towards the marina. I think when the water cools a little more, the bite will be jammin....right now still a little warm for the big shad chasin rodeo.
