Private lake with fees (or was) first of all so make sure you are good to go. I also understand they have a HP limit. Have not fished it but have golfed and stayed there before. Has lots of bass I'm told and some nice smallies. I do know the water is very clear so I'd recommend green pumpkin, cinnamon/oxblood, or watermelon colors for plastics.

My guess is deep drop shot once the sun is over the trees. Find stuff on structure (brush piles, sunken trees, rocks, etc with your graph and drop a d shot on their heads). Football deep and shakey head deep would be solid too I'd wager as would a flutter spoon if the bait of of any size.

Topwater along the shoreline should be great in the AM as I looked closely at the lake while there and there are lots of shoreline targets to throw at and flip/pitch.

Post how you did there when you get back.

Lake Lure requires a boat permit. You can pay a daily fee - though it is not cheap. I don't think there is a hp limit but no bass boat can be over 21' long - they measure from the back of the motor to the bow of the boat.

Fishing on Lake Lure is awesome. Deep structure fishes great this time of year, though may be hard to find if you don't know the lake. Night fishing is awesome there this time of year. The whole lake is a "no wake" zone after dark so it is slow getting anywhere but well worth it.

The lake has largemouth and smallmouth. There are even trout in it. The water is clear but the fish still hit big crankbaits and spinnerbaits really well. Good luck!

Pontoons have to be 28' or less... bass boats are 21' or less.

You need to know that you can only purchase boat permits from the Lake Lure Town Hall and they are only open Monday-Friday. Application forms are online at http://townoflakelure.com/Boat...n.pdf and they don't take credit cards at this time, so you might not be able to get on the lake this time unless you arrive on Friday before about 4PM.

    Good luck
All the local ordinances are here: http://townoflakelure.com/lake_use_boating.htm

Here are the requirements from the town website:
    Private Boats
Insurance - Lake Lure requires that all private boat owners must obtain and maintain marine liability insurance with at least $300,000 in coverage for each motorized boat permitted. The Town does not need to be listed as a co-insured. Proof of insurance must be shown in order to receive a permit (either an agency letter or a copy of the policy).
Limits - A reminder of the limits in place for boat mooring and for resident-rate permits:
Owners and spouses of an improved property parcel (with dwelling) within the Town of Lake Lure may have up to 3 motorized boats permitted at the resident rates. An unimproved parcel may have 1 motorized boat permitted. Additional boats must be permitted at the non-resident rates.
No more than 3 boats may be moored per 100 feet of shoreline (exception: approved marinas and cluster moorings).
Rental Homes with Boat - A rented home is a commercial operation. Any boat utilized in conjunction with the rental must be permitted under Commercial Boat rules and requirements.
What to Bring to Town Hall?
Address of Lake Lure property (if applying for a resident permit)
Name, address and contact information of boat owner (name must match property tax records for resident permits)
Boat information: make, model, year, length, color, mooring location. If motorized: motor make, year, horsepower.
For motorized boats: Proof of state registration
For motorized boats: Proof of liability insurance (marine policy or homeowner’s policy or a certificate of insurance)
Check or cash to pay for permit fees

Re: Going to Lake Lure for the Holi ... (BUMBLE BEE 4 STROKE)

The Lake was nice. We stayed at Rumbling Bald Resort. I fished for about a hour every morning from shore. Although there was a sign that sport fishing was encouraged, it was only a sign. I was kicked off of every spot around the resort that I wanted to fish and relegated to two spots. I had some blowups on a Sammy but no hook ups except for a bluegill. I caught a 13 inch fish on a GP shakeyhead worm but my fish story is the one that got away. The fish bit the shakeyhead off the end of the pier that i was allowed to fish from. I wasn't even sure what species it was. I thought it was a big trout or pickerel but when she came out the water it was a monster bass in the 5-6 pound range. It spit that shakeyhead right at me. It kept me going back for the rest of the week. COuld have really used a boat, looked some some real fishy shoreline.
