    Boat title question

I bought a boat a few weeks back from NC and I live in Va. The guy had 3 boats and found 2 titles but not the one for the boat I got. I got a bill of sale from him and he was getting the lost title. Does anyone know what need to do now as he will not even return my calls ? Can I do the title with just a bill of sale or do I need more ?
A good ole ass whipping was my first thought.... ...but then I still have no title
He owns a roofing company in eastern NC so he won't go too far...maybe.

Unless it has changed for a car or motorcycle in that situation down here you can get an indemnity bond for the value, do some other paperwork, send a certified mail to the last registered owner, get it inspected and you can get a title.

Boats for a long time here did not have to have titles and they were exchanged with a bill of sale but once one has a title attached to it then it must be transferred via the title. Maybe Va will take a bill of sale and issue a Va title.

Best to check with NC Wildlife. They handle boat registration. I just sold a boat without a title. All I had to give the buyer was a bill of sale with my personal information and the boat registration and serial numbers. According to NC Wildlife, all he had to do was send that a form and $20.00 and they would issue a title. Check the website for the form and call Wildlife if you have questions. The fellow I talked to was very friendly and helpful. The website is http://www.ncwildlife.org , good luck.

    Re: Boat title question (bassnva123)

No big deal if its the same when I was in the business. The Buyer goes to DMV local office and gets a lost title app MVR??IO812? form and fills it out. DMV checks with title section for liens. If any the buyer will did to go to lien holder for a release being paid off Most likely you can use the Lost Title App in the Great State of Va, but not sure. Did 1000s of auto this way with the same MVR?IO812? not sure of form # No big deal. Good Luck I is the seller deal to produce clear title at time of sale, lost title app and cleared is almost just as good with proper seals

    Re: Boat title question (Rangerman)

all you have to do is go to wildlife office or nc wildlife website and print off lost title application. take your bill of sale and the lost title application to the wildlife office and make the transaction. the bill of sale and lot title app both need to be notorized and have his signature on them. This is only if the boat had a title, if it didnt have a title attached to the boat then all u need is bill of sale.

    Re: Boat title question (bassnva123)

I bought a boat several years ago without a title. The guy that sold it to me did a bill of sale and we had a lost title form notarized. From what I can remember that is all I needed to get the boat registered and titled.
