    Unhappy Terrova Dead! Any suggestions

Now my terrova completely died. Wondering if anyone had the same thing happen and what the fix was. I was going full speed and then it just stopped. Took it out of the water and it turns very jerkily and slow. Took it off the boat and put it on my workbench. Hooked it up to my batteries while monitoring their voltage. Motor ran jerkily and very slow, even with the control turned to full. Runs as fast as speed 2 maybe. Took apart the motor, cleaned the brushes and commutator. No change. Hooked up another motor I had lying around to the control board and it runs in jerks and slowly. So I think my main board is fried, or can a bad foot pedal cause this? The motor is a legacy terrova.

If the main board is fried, I have two options. One is to upgrade the board to the newer one with BT, and get a head unit (old head unit is also busted) or the other one is to junk the motor and get a MG, since I have lowrance electronics. which way do I go, and is the old board even fixable?

    Thanks

Have you tried applying power directly to the motor? If you have a remote then disconnect the foot pedal and try to run the motor with the remote. If it runs smooth then it is the foot pedal affecting the board.
If you decide to upgrade then you will need a control board, a GPS Module(comes with remote) and you will also need a foot pedal because the older one will not work with BT. Could end up being pricey.

I insist that you get a new one.

Alright, its going in the dumpster. Anyone need it for parts? both the main board and head unit are fried, steering housing is cracked. GPtimes I think that is what I will do. I didn't know that I would have to get another foot pedal, that is the deal breaker. And yes I powered it up direct and it spins alright. The ipilot is also shot so the remote doesn't work. Now should I get another terrova or an xi5? I have lowrance hds gen3 units in my boat.

Did you use the remote or foot control the most with the Terrova? If you used the remote most often then the Xi5 bears consideration. If you mostly steer with the foot control might wanna go back to the devil you know. The remote on the Xi5 is faultless. The foot control... not so much.
