Had time, two props and a GPS

Finally had time to test with GPS my two props. First up is the 14X17 Alum that came with the rig new and the new-old-stock 13.5X18 SS Raker I bought this winter. Alum 14X17 34.5 mph at 5300 rpms. The Raker jumped on plain and hit 3500 rpms almost immediately then hit 35mph @ 4200 rpms very quickly then a slow climb to 40 mph at 5150 rpms with trim. The Raker really bites in the corners and I lose much less speed and rpms. On another note: Talk about crazy! I was at Smith Mountain Lake in VA and the little Xpress/90Etec was pulling wakeboarders during the heat of the day. So at 9:00am we are setting up and I throw out the rope and my son finishes putting on the wakeboard and jumps in to start backstroking to the rope end when a boat passing bye picks up my rope and pulls my boat under water and towards my son. He thinks quick and dives down as deep as possible and rolls under my boat. I was standing next to the console facing the motor when this happened and so I turned to check my son and the other guy stopped when his family alerted him to the situation. At that point I was in knee deep water and the Etec was submerged up to the Evinrude sticker facing forward (about 4 inches of motor showing) the boat then kind of popped up as the tow pressure was off and its natural buoyancy impacted. after confirming my son was ok I hit the bilge pump and noticed the Etec was still idleing. I was amazed at the water seal of the cowling. I checked the motor and not a drop of water was to be found inside the cowling. My son had some deep bruises on his left ear, left shoulder, and left hip but all turned out ok. I was very surprised at how shook up I was at the potential serious injury to my son. then the guy has the nerve to tell me he didn't see my son and he thought I was fishing. With 150 yrds of lake between me and the other shore line he drives within 65 feet of a fisherman? Oh ok then if I was fishing drive as close as you like.

Well thank goodness you are all more or less OK. One has to be very vigilant & can never be too carefull. I do hope your son has no lasting injuries. His quick thinking has served him well. I am sure we all wish you all a quick recovery & no lasting trauma.

I know that lake. It is crazy. I never go out on it during the weekends. To many close calls keep on the water only during the weekdays.
