Opti 150 slight milky color in lower unit oil

So after dealing with weeds in my t stat and compressor screen i was going in to do my water pump and as i was draining the lower unit and i have water contamination... not a whole lot i had a blob of it come out when i opened the drain screw and had a faint trail as it drained.

Im guessing at this point i should be sending out my LU to get new seals or in most cases is it from water pump gasket.

Seeing i got debris in the water pump housing it could of done some work on gasket or the amount of contaminated oil could be from a bad seal on one of the screws.?

I dont have a LU pressure tester. And by the tome i spend the 300$for the tester it would pay for most of the work to just get it done i assume

Those seals you are referencing are included in the WP kit?

I decided to get the lower unit seals done regardless of where it leaks. Pretty well just told myself F it and get it redone and wash my hands of it all together... figure with the hours and age of the motor its more then likely due to be done sooner then later.


I got my 1st ever bass fishing tournament coming up in October so rather have it ready to rock with no doubts the LU is good to go!


On that note seeing the dealer is going the seals they are installed the water pump kit as well. now I know Don recommends adding a bead of sealant around something to prevent leaks. can anyone point me to which are he is referring to as I will add that bead once I get the unit back

Its the "exhaust damn" behind water pump. Did u take the boat or just lower?

I brought them my lower unit. so sounds like I can just add the bead of sealant as I install it.

Little update. I got my lower unit back. It held a leak down test for 30 minutes without loosing any pressure. shop said it could of been a bad drain / breather plug seal.

New water pump installed lower unit going back on today!

Hey Joe I know the studs on the lower unit need to be tq'd to 55ft lbs is the bolt in the trim tab cavity also tq to 55 ft lbs. I had the specs written down somewhere from the last time I did it but cant find it!

5 nuts - 50lb ft
Bolt - 27.5lb ft
Anode bolt - 25lb ft

update....
zzzz ofcourse found the notes i wrote down. saved it on my old phone as a memo lol. not sure why I had 55 ft lbs in mind but glad I didnt jump the gun until I confirmed the info!
