Hello, I have a 1996 Johnson 225 Oceanrunner that stalls at idle and when put in gear. After it stalls it is hard to restart. If I squeeze the primer bulb a few times it starts right up. Once it gets going it runs smoothe however the alarm beeps at approx 4800 rpms ( I've learned that it is a low oil beep). Could this be the vro/oms pump? Comp is good, filters and plugs have been changed.
A low oil alarm is separate from a no oil alarm. To verify the low oil alarm is the issue unplug the two wire connector coming from the oil tank to the motor it is a brown and black wire connector. If it is a steady alarm starting at that RPM that would indicate a fuel restriction alarm coming from the vacuum switch. But from the description of your problem it sounds like the OMS is starting to go.
Try disconnecting the oil tank first if the alarm persist then disconnect the harness on the OMS for the NO OIL alarm.
Would that account for the stalling problem too? What are the correct RPMs at idle, in neutral, in the water? I have it set at around 800, is that too low?
