    Lake Champlain

Traveling up from Kentucky, for a tourney in a few weeks. Any basic info on areas of the lake to fish, I would prefer to fish for Largemouths, but am willing to try the smallies if need be. What portions within the Ticondaroga or Misquiotwa(SP???) are normally the most productive??? Also cheap hotels, campgrounds, good cheap safe place to stay. Thanks for any info

Can you be more specific where you are launching from? That would help us figure out info to give you. Ticonderoga and Missisquoi Bay(if thats what you were trying to spell) are way too far apart to run.

We are launching out of Plattsburg, Ny. However, I have no problem running down to Ticondaroga or wherever there is a bite!

The fishing down at Ticonderoga is pretty good right now, I just spent a week at camp on the Vermont side, about 5 miles from the fort. I caught a lot of 4 pounders, and some pretty close to 5, but not quite. You can catch a fair number of 3-4 pounders in a day. If you catch one good bass, stick in that area, because they tend to run in schools down there. I fished a big tourney out of Ticonderoga on Saterday, I pulled three 4.5 pounders out of one clump of weeds in the first hour. I ended up taking 3rd place with 21.87 pounds, that's with a 6 fish limit. First place was a 24lb sack anchored with a 6 pounder. That goes to show how good it is down there still, and the pressure down there is non-stop, seven days a week.

Before I went up for the week, the word was it was getting awefull pressure south of the Champlain bridge, and all week long I saw bass boats everywhere I looked. However, you can still find some really good fishing down there, just don't count on the obvious spots like points, any really prime areas get the beat down 7 days a week........all day long. Look for out of the way places, and don't be afraid to work the long milfoil patches around deep water, most good bass are running in about 8-12 feet of water, or they are under a blanket of green cheese where you might have luck with scum frogs. The frog bite dies quick when the sun comes out, on a overcast day, you get that bite all day. Good luck

If your going to go down south, try staying at Sportsman Cottages, they are fairly cheap for a week, maybe 450-500 bucks a week, and they are clean. They are a stones throw away from the state launch at the Champlain bridge in Addison Vermont. Just google sportsman cottages addison Vermont and you'll find their website.
