    LOZ?

Coming down this weekend with my wife for 3 days of fishing and checking out the area. I'll be fishing for bass and wonder if you guys could answer a couple of questions?

Do prespawn fish stage on brush piles?

If so, what types of baits do you fish brush piles with? I'm thinking that a fellar could lose a few baits in these if he didn't know what he was doing (like me). We don't have brush piles up here in Minnesocold so I never get a chance to fish 'em. As a matter of fact, I don't get much of a chance to fish for prespawn bass either.

    Do they stage around docks?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Macsimus - I'd say "yes" to all of your questions. Though there are some places on the lake where docks are not as important. For staging fish you'll want to key on docks situtated where the bank transitions from 45 deg chunk rock to 30 deg pea gravel bottom. Don't waste time on groups of docks where the bank looks the same for long stretches. Many of these pre-spawn types of spots are on little points leading into small pockets. Lots of choices for baits to throw in the brush but I would suggest small plastics like a Zoom baby brush hog in a green or brown color fished on lighter line and a light weight. Figure out what depth range the fish are using in the area you are fishing and stay with that, be it around the back of the dock or near the front.

    Good luck!
