    96 RUDE PROBLEM

Buddy of mine has a 1996 hydra-sport with a 96 70hp rude on it and he went and dumped the boat in the other day only to find his kids had left the key on. The cranking batt was dead so he took his jumper cables and jumped from the trolling motor batteries as in both of them. He now has no spark, did jumping it with 24volts mess it up? If so what would be the best place to start? The boat will turn over like normal but has no spark on any of the 3 cylinders. I looked at the fuse and pulled the power pak and the fuse was good and the power pak has no melted spots in the rubbery filler which I am sure it could still be bad but it seems in the past I have seen melted spots. Anybody have any suggestions on what I should check and also how to check it?
    Thanks in advance

Re: 96 RUDE PROBLEM (CAJUN MVP)

Did he jump it at 24 volts or 12? If he jumped it at 24, he probably blew something. Does the motor have a fuse? My 150 does and its on the port side up top. It is one of the newer type fuses, you can tell by looking at it.

That is where I would start.

Yes, sorry it was with 24v. I checked that fuse first and it is fine. I checked it thinking it would be the first line of defense against stupid.

Make sure while the Katzenjammer kids weren't playing around that they didn't knock off the kill switch. If it isn't something simple as that he may want to consider taking it to a certified tech as the electronic parts ain't cheap and once you buy them you own them.

Man I bet it spun over at warp speed then.

CM is correct about the kill switch too. Made a run to the dealer before on that. Dude said make sure the kill switch isn't tripped. Boy I felt
