Need help diagnosing problem - 2001 Ficth 200HP

I was running down lake at 3800RPM and the motor quit.

Now I'll start from the beginning:

* The motor started with no problem

* I left the ramp after having the motor running for approximately 6-7 minutes...there was a slight hesitation and then it smoothed out and ran fine.

* I cruised around to several fishing areas and had no problems...these were relatively short runs

* Then I ran approximately 7-8 miles with no problem...fished for a while then started the 7-8 mile trip back. About halfway back the motor died as if it wasn't getting any fuel. I restarted the boat and when I put into gear it died...then I couldn't restart the boat. It turns over fine and tried to start a couple of times and now all it does is turn over. This sounds like the classic "I'm out of fuel" I have more than a half a tank.

What should be my starting point trying to figure out this problem?

Hi Bob, it sounds like you may either have a fuel restriction or the fuel lift pump may be the problem. Check the primer bulb to see if it will pump up firm. turn on the key and make sure you can hear the fuel pump running. the anti-siphon valve could be stuck as well.

The primer bulb is firm and you can hear the fuel pump when you turn the key!
