Our club is planning a tournament next September at Rend Lake. We are thinking of going out of Sail Boat Harbor or Gun Creek. Is one better than the other?
How is the fishing on Rend in September?
Any other recommendations \ suggestions?

Jackie Branch has a ramp good for 15 - 20 rigs if your tourney is somewhat small. September on Rend is usually when the Shriners have their big tournament as well as USA Bassin's regional. Those are both bigger events with many boats. Just some info for ya.

Unless you are fishing the Gun creek end of the lake, I'd use the sailboat harbor. It is always protected from the wind and is center lake.

+1 on what Robert said about sailboat.
Also mighconcederer the Resort, there are some condo's and cabins that they rent if a group of you wanted to share the expenses it makes a nice location as well. There is a decent restaurant as well as a sports bar of sorts. You can leave your boats in the water at the resort docks that even have electricity should you need to charge your boats.
Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply.
Speak kindly. Leave the rest to God.
Sailboat harbor is a HUGE release area. As others have pointed out make sure to check if a big tournament is going on. Be very careful when running on the North end of the lake.

Better check your dates. The last sunday of the month is the Shriners' and its a 100+ boat tournament taking off from the sailboat ramp. Then.......last year USA Bassin had their regional that same weekend and it had 82 boats.
But on the bright side, fishin usually slows down all through the miserable hot weather but picks up in september when it begins to cool off a bit.
Fish & Wildlife start dropping the lake the 2d week in Sept. The foundations and stumps start coming into play when that happens. Like the other guys have stated, Shriners normally have their tourney around the 24-26th.
Jackie Branch has a good ramp, but no place to shore your boat. They put heavy rip rap all around the bank last year. I think Sailboat harbor may still be the only ramp that you don't have to pay a fee to launch/park.
It's still one of those lakes that you can have a great day on....or cuss all the way home.
