    RT-188 Ranger Trail Wheels

Son..... I would love to meet the knuckle dragging gorilla who installed the rims on the my Ranger Trail Trailer at the factory!

Ranger replaced all three rims due to the clear coat flaking off, and I decided to replace the Carlisle "When Pops" with some good Maxxis 8008's.

During the process of removing the tires/rims that were installed at the factory, we broke/split 4 sockets! Studs were nice and clean, no corrosion, who ever put them on at the factory must have used a 10 foot cheater bar and stood on the dang thing!

I can not imagine having to break those free on the side of the road... For you RT guys, that have never pulled the wheels off, it may be a good idea to break them free and re-torque them to the correct foot pounds... It may save you a lot of grief, cussing and swearing if one decides to let loose on the side of the road.

Replaced mine from the start with locking open top stainless acorn nuts and used anti-seize. Don't remember having any problem removing them to start. But I have always used anti-seize on boat trailer lugs due to their getting dunked all the time.

i had a freeway accident several years ago when one of the tires on my Basscat trailer came off at 75 MPH. And this was a single axle trailer. I was able to get it under control but not before I wiped out one side of a Toyota in the adjacent lane.
All five studs were sheared clean with the hub. The shop that repaired the trailer told me the cause was over torqued lug nuts. Now whenever I have to have tires, I ask the dealer what torque he uses on the lug nuts. So not only is it a nuisance, it is dangerous.

Realize this is a dated thread, but I noted some of you like to use anti-seize on your trailer lugs. I do not, and this is why......YMMV.

Don't mean to steal the thread, but anyone know how much a replacement wheel is from Ranger? eTrailer has the same wheel but it's silver only or in a 15in.
