More than likely they just disconnected the VRO's oiling system and unplugged the alarms. The 235 does like the fuel and I recommend running 89 octane in that guy. Add some seafoam or BRP Carbon Guard for a few tanks. Mix it with a semi-synthetic.
CM, didn't you mean 92 octane and 32:1 oil mix. That motor has the 638/639 heads and it's on a heavy Champ.
That 201 ain't that heavy Shaun, It is around 1350# dry. The 235 should run fine on mid grade, I imagine it has been running 87 for a while.. Yes with those heads 92 would be the magic bullet. But if it has been on the 87 and he hasn't ..... then 89 would be a cheap step up. Tough to tell from the IN/

Check the part numbers on the heads and post them. That will determine the best advice for your set up. If they end in 638 and 639, you should make sure you aren't running more then 24 degrees of timing, and you should consider running good gas. Use a good oil too, semi-synthetic at minimum.

I have been running premium gasand seafoam, some one said the heads were high compression
they are the 638,639 heads. the clymers manual I have says 50:1 oil, should it be 32:1? any idea what year this motor is i assume it is an 84, on timing how do you check it?

IT is an 85 mix it at 40:1 Check your timing with a timing light.
Those are the best stock heads, they have high compression, so you should run 93 octane.
As CM said, mix at 40 to 1 on the oil, and make sure not to run over 24 degrees. Use good oil. No cheapie stuff.
That sucker ought to move out pretty good. YOu may want to see about putting some fiber reeds in there, that helps a little bit too.

It should already have fiber reeds. They came with them from the factory. BUT, the manual calls for them to be replaced every 25 hours of use so if they are the originals you might want to swap'em out for a set of Boysens.
