Brian there is not a ton of them but the ones that are here have been for a long time and most locals are loyal to them so starting a new one is not impossible but will be tough, especially on the Cumming side...since Hammonds just opened their new store.

I buy almost everything fishing oriented from Hammonds. They are good people and are a pleasure to deal with.Besides I keep my boat at their boat storage center.

wouldn't be looking to steal customers, just looking to make a living doing what i enjoy for a change instead of being miserable and taken advantage of. competition is always healthy so long as the big box stays out of it. for giggles, if i were to start a small sport shop, where may be an appropriate location? again, not looking to step on toes likes hammonds or any other small business's of similar ilk, but there are alot of anglers and hunters out there. heck, maybe i'll just buy an old roach coach and modify it and sell live bait and limited tackle supplies right at the ramps

Didn't hammonds put their own kin out of business? I though North Georgia outdoor sports which was right behind them was owned by a relative.

No they were of no kin!

Thomas and Candy Hammond originally started, owned & operated Hammonds Fishing they sold the business to Keith Westbrook but still owned the building it was in. There was some issues that came up of which I do not know all of the details so I will not comment on them.

Keith moves up the hill or "right behind them". Thomas & Candy I assume still had the rights to the Hammonds fishing name so they kept it and reopened the original store.

So North Georgia Fishing was born and John Poland (Keith's father in law) became the financial backer on it.

Keith ended up in a divorce and the business was financially struggling so Keith and ex father in law closed up shop!

John Poland then reopens under North Georgia Fishing, later brought Timberghost of Dalton, Ga. owner in as a partner. They changed the name to Timberghost.

The owner of the original TimberGhost pulled out (for whatever reason I do not know) now it is as far as I know solely owned by John Poland and is still operating as TimberGhost.

Thomas, Candy Hammond and family built a new awesome must see store at the foot of the hill and is still operating as Hammonds Fishing Center

    Something like that anyway's!

    Might work who knows!

My observation is that Timberghost is primarily hunting with a few shelves dedicated to fishing. Go in Hammonds and then into Timberghost and decide for yourself.
