How do they expect the working man to even fish a tournament? It will really screw us if they do that to all of the Corps lakes. I wonder if they could do it on Seminole since it's "co-owned" by other states?

sorry to tell ya this but if the lake is a corp lake it is owned by the corp of dummies not by the states. we have Hartwell, russell, and the hill here that are corp owned and the states have no say over what is done on or with them. the almighty corp of dummies has the only and final say. get used to the more govt in your lives the more people want security the less freedom in our lives we will have, just how soon will it be before they may figure out that a bass boat can blow up a dam >>>>>>>> think about it, yea thats right and neither party is any different so anything the corp says goes. have fun.

This is not new. The Corp has always required that clubs and other organizations holding tournaments on the lakes apply for and recieve the required permits. Unfortunately, most don't do it, and at times it can and does cause problems.

As an officer of a club here for many years, I dealt with the corps, DNR etc and always took care to ensure we were legal and they always knew when and where we fished, and we never had any issues with them. There were times however when another club would show up at a ramp and be ready to fight us for parking and launching etc, and I would produce a permit and once had to call Hall Co to solve the problem.

These permits ensure that the clubs or other organizations are using a ramp/facility that has enough parking to fit their need and that they will not use more than 1/2 of the parking. If they do, then they have to use a privately owned ramp or facility that is not run by the corps, such as Laurel Park on Lanier, which is owned and maintained by Hall Co and not the Corps.

If clubs and other organizations continue to fish like this without these permits this is what they can and should expect to happen and it will indeed be their own fault.

Besides allowing other boaters the ability to also use the facility to which they have a right, the permits ensure that increased security is used during the event to watch the tow vehicles etc.

It is a small price to pay IMHO

Don I think you miss the point here on 2 accounts, 1) on the dead sea there will be no tourneys on public(corp) ramps on weekends, the spoksperson said fish during the week, 2) the other reason for this is that within 30 minutes of both lanier and toona there are what 8 million people living and more each month, they have to try to stop or curb useage, due to increased deaths and property owners complaints. The reason for the ban is the people who dont show up at meetings and forums are usually the fishermen, the owners and pleasure boaters show up in droves as usually most are white collar workers and dont have the job and other responsibilities of fishermen. I went to a corp/DNR meeting about hartwell once and all it was was a slug fest against fishermen buy homeowners and opleasure boaters, I was the only fisherman there. sure people fished off the dock at their house but they were not bass boat or stripper fisherman.

It comes down to who hollers the most gets the prize, and well on altoona it will be the pleasure boaters and lanier will be next tho it may take longer as it is a larger lake than toona.. get ready.

Well the sad thing about property owners is that the owners and pleasure boaters are the major cause of erosion etc due to their inability to drive with their boats on plane, and very few deaths are caused by anglers as well. In facet, very few alcohol related incidents are involving anglers.

Lanier verages around 18 1/2 million visitors per year and sometimes as much as 20 million visitors making it the number one visited corps lake in the country.

I understand but refuse to see how asking anglers to curb tournaments on weekends is going to change anything. The problems that exist and of which you speak, have nothing to do with tournament anglers

I would love to see anglers be able to have the lake to themselves during the week and let the morons out on the weekends. I avoid the lakes on the weekends anyway if at all possible

Another point is that Bassboats are filling up the Corp ramps every weekend during those summer weekends ... and the owners & pleasure boaters are getting ripped off according to them ..... 2 big T's out of 1 ramp .... its full ... thats how it was explained to me when Victoria Landing turned me down when i asked about using their ramp for my benefit T .... bunch of shit if ya ask me .... who pays for fishing liscences every year , ramp fee's , yearly pass's .. FISHERMEN .... damn sure aint the jet-ski's

I agree. If a body of water does not allow tournament anglers to fish there, then they should not recieve any $$$ from the license or ramp fees etc

isnt that point a non point? dont pleasure boats and jet skiers pay to use alatoonas ramps also? and if the liscense fees go to the state since they issue the boat license, fishing license and such it goes to state owned ramps. Not federal owned ramps.
If the feds dont want tourneys let them see ramp and other fees drop but it will end up costing more as no where has govt ever lost money, they if it is now less will make it up in higher fees and such for everyone not just fisherman. I say since it is called the dead sea anyway and they pull it down so low that 1/2 of the lake is not useable in the winter just dont use alatoona, use lanier, sinclair, oconee, and others in the area.

Only if your driving Steve .

No problem on the SC side as long as you request in advance. What they are trying to do is balance the ramps out.
