Started out cold this morning, with a lot of clouds, but there was one of the most beautiful sunrises I think I have ever seen. Sure wish I would have brought the camera for that.
We had about 10 mph winds blowing in out of the east, and we started fishing across from the ramp on a windy point, and on 2nd or 3rd cast, nailed a chunky Coosa bass on a spinnerbait.
We then went back to the mouth of a creek closeby, and limited out in the next half hour on crankbaits.
Caught a lot of fish in the first couple of hours, but just could never find the kicker fish we needed to upgrade. Rains came in about 9:30 or so, and the bite shut down

Thats pretty much what happened to us Don. Rain came in and they got lockjaw bad! Was still marking a bunch of fish and could see em coming up and lookin at the spoons and dropshots but would NOT hit the darn things!
Yep! A lot of the guys who weighed in some big bags today said they caught them early spooning. Some others caught theirs on crankbaits.
One guy said he got into some schoolers and caught a couple of big ones on top.
The bite was definately early today![]()

Sure hurts your feelings too when the top 5 teams come in with 15# of fish! WW was 16.97#'s.!
Yeah Fred, but when you are fishing in their backyard, and they fish almost everyday, they are gonna be on fish.
Too bad some of us have to work for a living![]()

Don, it is my backyard!!It's that working everyday that kills, gaurantee that you won't see the same crowd at keowee or Russell.
That is part of fishing a true "Trail" Fred. We both know that. Every lake we visit is going to draw the locals who are on fish, but they will only fish that one lake or tourney. Overall for the year, they won't get very high in the points for the Classic
I appreciate the offer to fish together on Keowee in January. Don won
t be able to fish until Clark Hill in February. Looking forward to it![]()

Winners I heard were using a buzzbait. And you probably won't see them again until next Hartwell tournament. Great turnout. 32 boats.
