Check engine light on a 97 200 Venom

    Rusty
Chad again, I told you that the check engine light had come on and I changed all fuel filters. Does this alarm come on for anything else but the vacuum sensor for the fuel. I check the sensor and it is going off with 5 in hg then 7 in hg I then hook the vacuum gage to the fuel line pulling through filters Its only pulling about 3 in hg. I started getting the alarm a few weeks ago and tonight we ran to our first spot with no alarm and the rest of the night it would go off right after started at Idle.. I used the trolling motor to get back..
    Any suggestions
    Chad

Thats the only thing that will turn on the Check Engine light on your motor, do you have dual tanks with a selector valve?

3hg at idle is to much, have you looked at the anti siphon valve?

I had a vacuum gage on the line and the most I could get it to pull was 3 in pumping as fast as I could.. I haven't tried it with the engine running yet. I do have dual tank but both are free when pumping. I had removed the anti siphon valves a year ago do to problems with one of them so I took both out.

Wait, you need a vacuum guage you can "T" in the fuel line and start the motor, what you are checking is if there are any restrictions in the fuel system.

The vacuum pump you are using will not work for this test.

I had one come in the other day with the Check Engine light on and the fuel line was pinched in the hydraulic steering ram.

I will do that tomorrow I dont think the neighors would appreciat it right now..LOL.
At what vacuum is the gauge supposed to set the light off?? One time its 5 the next its 7. I had this replaced a while back for the same thing and the new sensor took care of it that is when the anti siphon valves came out.
I appreciate the super fast responses you guys are awsome.

The sensor should turn the light on at 5 to 7 hg, I set them all to 7 hg.

Then if the valve is out you could have a pinched fuel line, a bad primer bulb or another bad sensor.

Your Welcome on the response time but, I have to get some sleep, got a rebuild on a 1998 Ficht in the morning.

I had another thought, does the light ever come on when the key is on motor not running?

If it does it may be a bad System Check guage.

Re: Check engine light on a 97 200 Venom (RUSTY63)

    Rusty,
I have not seen the light come on except when I get to min 5 in hg. I am going to get a 3/8 tee and take to the lake tonight and do a WOT test to see what I am getting. If it is high I will set it up to go off one tank and bypass the tank selector valve.
Another question. This was bugging me and woke up about 4 this morning, I called a buddy to see if I could borrow the one off his 2000 200. We could not find on on his motor fuel line dirrectly to the VRO.. Did they stop using the sensor?
    Thanks again.

I have a 97 200 Venom and had the check engine light come on a few months ago. Couldn't find a single thing wrong with it, and finally took it to the dealer. Turned out that the gague itself had gone bad. Go figure....

Re: Check engine light on a 97 200 Venom (RUSTY63)

    Rusty,
Update. Went to lake and at idle vacuum gage would show one to two psi. Give it full throttle and same thing never even come close to 5in hg. And no alarm tonight of course.. Drove around the lake with gage on it and same readings.. switched tanks and same readings. Let sit for awhile and no alarm and no readings higher than 2 in hg. hhhhmmmm. Guess I take it to the lake again tomorrow and run around. After thinking about it, it only gives the alarm after its been ran and fish for awhile and go again thats when the alarm would go.. But not tonight of course. I guess I will tear the seats out and track the fuel lines front to back and see if I see any weak spots or possible areas it could kink.. Is about 20 degrees cooler tonight..

At idle the guage should show 1/2 to 1, see if you can get the reading lower, by pass the things you can to see if that will help.

    Rusty
Went out again and ran boat fished awhile and got the alarm. My gage isn't accurate enough to really see 1/2 to 1. Hooked up gage and it still showed the 2 or less. I think the sensor is giving mixed readings after it gets hot by the engine. Can I take it out of the holder were it is by the block and see if it keeps from getting warm to see if it sets off the alarm? How much do the sensors run? Local marina wants 97.00 for a new one. I have the vacuum gage right at the VRO.

You can adjust the sensor, dig the potting material out of the end of it, you will find a slotted screw, get the vacuum pump you were using before and a ohm meter, hook the ohm meter between the sensor leads, pull a vacuum on it and see when it trips the sensor, adjust the slotted screw until the sensor trips at 7 hg.

Your guy is right on the price, part number 586544 sensor, $97.77.

    I would not unhook it.

Re: Check engine light on a 97 200 Venom (RUSTY63)

    Rusty one more question,
On the primer valve with the red dial, which way should that be? Down? Up? it was up but the pic on the air housing looks that it is supposed to be down.. Would that cause any of this.. I pulled the sensor and adjusted to 7 (was at 5) and re-epoxied the end shut. Changed all the lines from the primer bulb back.. I did notice that the T that the vacuum sensor connects into the main fuel line was hard to get any air through, looked like the plastic hole was not all the way through.. I opened it up with a drill bit (right or wrong)?? Take it out again tomorrow for another tourny.. Find out then. Just curious on the red dial position and what its for.
Thanks again, someday I'll Quit bothering you with this..
