    Hartwell next weekend

OK guys one of these days I will get smart and manage to keep up with the info I get over the years. Fred you gave me some good info the year before last and i'll be darned if I can't find them. Anyhow I will be fishing there next weekend with my club on our once a year trip there. Coming out of Hurricane creek in Anderson. Any info or tips would be appreciated.

Re: Hartwell next weekend (Bassin Billy)

    Billy,

The spawn should be about over for the bass in most areas of the lake now, and they should be feeding.

The Blueback should also be roaming, so I would key on areas with them early in the morning.

Two major areas to consider are the humps and long points near the dam south of Andersonville Island, and the I-85 bridges around the columns.

For the humps, early throw Rat-l-traps and jerkbaits along with Chugbug, Sammy or Spooks early. Make the casts up over the shallowest parts and work them quickly back off the edges. If you see blueback following the baits, you are in the right spot.

Spinnerbaits or Flukes in white also work great in these same spots.

For the bridge columns, fish the ones closest to the river channel ledges and throw a big deep diving crankbait, or Fishhead spin and work the columns. Same thing...look for the blueback.

After the first couple of hours, Docks and points would be the areas I keyed on. Carolina rigged baits and crankbaits around the points, and jigs, worms and Senkos or Flukes around the docks.

Also, consider using a small 1/8 oz jighead, like the Spotsicker with a bug 5" grub like the Fat Albert and just cast it out, and then slowly swim it back. At times I have caught some nice fish on those baits on Hartwell. White and Chartreuse colors seem to work best for me there.

Re: Hartwell next weekend (Bassin Billy)

i just joined the forum but been reading it for over a year now, i'm camping at lake hartwell state park (sc), all i'm catching are the little pecker head large mouth and i've throwed from crankbaits to worms to lizzards of all colors, i plan on going back down sat and plan on staying another week, all the big fish i see on the sonar are 30 to 40ft deep, and whats up with all them damn garr, atleast thats what i call'em, long fish with long snout and teeth, and they run in packs on top of the water, i can't even fish for them till i move somewhere else then there they are again.anyway just looking for some betterspots to fish and what with.

    Re: Hartwell next weekend (tomoad)

    Hi Tomoad,
Welcome to the boards, yep, them are Gar! They is having their mating ritual now so they is a cruising. Move off the banks and get on some of the main lake points and fish Carolina rig anywhere from 8-25' with Trick worms and lizzards. Keep a top water tied on and ready as they will come up schooling. The fish you are marking are probably Stipers or Hybrids. Move on down the Tugaloo and you should find some better fish. CM
