Smallest suggested prop for E-TEC 115

Im running a michigan 13.75 x 15 on a 07 115 E-Tec 19' boat. I am only turning 5600 rpms W.O.T and trying to get as close to 5750 as possible with average load. The next step down is a johnson/evinrude 13.50 x 15. Would 1/4 in. Dia. make a difference? My dealer says that he doesn't recommend a 13 pitch and says that 5600 is close enough. Any advice or suggestions from you guys would be great. Thanks

If it was me I would leave it as it is. I don't think the 1/4" difference will do anything. A 13" will raise your RPM & give more holeshot & would be interesting to try but only for heavy loads & pulling a skiier. Best rpm is around 5700. A spare prop is a must.

Thank for taking the time. I suppose that is good enough too for what I use it for. I just didnt want to be lugging the motor when I have a full load. If I find another cheap 15" maybe I'll have it pitched down to a compromising 14" would that be o.k ? thanks again mate.

It's gotta be a 20" motor. The big gearcase motors use a 15 1/2 X 15. Personally, I'd try the smaller diameter; if you're like me, if you don't, you'll always wonder.

But then again, I've tried over 15 different props on my 115 (25") and I'm not sure I'm done.

You're correct, 20'shaft. Im gathering from your collection of props that it doesn't really matter what size prop you use, just whatever one gets you as closer to your ideal w.o.t with average load. which in this case should be 5750 rpms. I am going to try to john/rude 13.5 dia instead of the michigan 13.75 dia. maybe it will make it a little better. Your striper is really close in weight to my 19 arima so your info is very valuable. Im not looking for any special performance, I just have the health of the motor in mind! Thanks all for the input. T.Fox

    Mine was a 1511.

I like running a prop that turns 5,600 (actually I'm at 5,650 @ 38mph on a very good day). I seldom run WOT and get much better mpg (5+) with the higher pitch prop.
