    Lower unit capacity

Changed the lower unit lube today and noticed that it didn't quite take 32oz. My question is, how much should go into this lower unit? I had it in gear while I was changing it because I had just took the prop off and forgot to put it back in neutral. Would having it in gear make it so that I couldn't put the normal amount of lower unit lube in?? Thanks for the help.

I'm of the understanding that one ounce low isn't good in some cases. I like to see it running outta tha top hole in the case. JMHO

It was running out of the top hole. Would having it in gear prevented the correct amount from going in??

33 oz. is when it is bone dry. Usually with refill, 32 oz. will do it. If it is coming out the top hole your as full as it is going to get.

    Re: Lower unit capacity (wallco1)

Thank you. I didn't want to undo the bottom screw and lose a ton of oil and create a mess so I took the top one out and topped it off until it really started oozing out. Thanks for the help.
