35 pounds wins on Orange Lake

Yes thats right!! 35 lbs won the Tx on Orange Lake last Sunday. 2nd place 33lbs (22 boats) everyone had a limit...the sad part of this is that there was like 40 pounds of Bass that died from the heat. the fitting on my livewell pump broke and was letting all kinds of water in my hull. We pulled the boat out and tryed to rig it so we could aleast fish. When i found a half dead fish in my livewell i let all my fish go and loaded up and went home. I guess it didn't matter if you had a working livewell all the fish where dieing anyway from the heat.

Well we had 35.98 at 12:30 but by 3:00 it was down to 34.98.Yep two dead ones and my partner worked with the fish all afternoon doing what we could to save them but nothing worked, just stress I guess. There were a lot of dead ones I guess its just the heat not really any fault just tough in the summer. We also had big fish of 11.12. So we have done some checking and you really have to make sure the water is cool and plenty of oxygen in your livewells.

Growing up less than a minute from Marjorie rawlings ramp, I am proud to hear that lake is doing so well... I have heard so many stories from dad and unc, it gives me goosebumps.... Great job guys.... Let's not let everyone forget about orange lake!

Thanks all,I have been really having a hard time out there lately. The guys that run the tx are top notch.Bumpy owns fish tales in ocala and I would strongly suggest anybody looking for tackle to give them a shot.I think Im going to fish their whole trail next season.Seems like a bunch of good guys(plus pretty good fisherman). They always get 20 or so boats and the payout is good for a $40.00 tx

nice sacks, reminded me of the old days when thats what it took to win except that was with a 7 fish limit.we didn't have the fish kill though thats happening now.you would think with these more high tech rigs the live-well systems would be far better than they are.what a same!!

When I fished TX in Fl. I would put ice in my livewells to help the fish, also I would try to put water in from deeper part of the lake were the water could be cooler.

Congrats on the sack! The only way I can keep fish alive in the heat of the summer is to freeze several milk jugs with water. If you just put ice cubes in there it will not last a minute. The frozen milk jugs will last about 30 minutes and cool the livewell. Also everytime I stop at a new spot I pump in fresh water. Try not to recirc. for too long
