1988 200 XP -- won't turn off...

I have a 1988 200 XP that does not like to turn off...It runs like a champ starts great has a bunch of new stuff on it, but does not like to shut down.

Usually it is 50/50...if it does not shut off I simply put it in gear and it dies...not my favorite thing to be doing to my gearbox.

Any suggestions are much appreciated...Oh the Tach is intermittened (sp?) as well sometimes works sometimes not...

bad ground connection maybe???

Could be a broken ground wire on the key switch or a loose connection there. Could also be a bad power pack.

I will start at the switch...The power pack is supposed to be new within the last year or two. The tach is new as well.

Back then a common problem was the black-yellow single wire connectors at the power pack. The internal pins or sockets would break at the wire crimp due to vibration or rough handling and lost contact. In later years, a larger diameter connector was used to eliminate the problem.
