    Guntersville Info

Hey guys, heading to the big G from the 30th of March to the 2nd April. for the first time. I have been reading some posts on Guntersville and have notice some recent discussion on water level, rain and the lake being dropped. Can anyone tell me what the water clarity is now and is the lake scheduled to be lowered next week? Sounds like you guys use alot of the same colors we like here in FL too.

    Re: Guntersville Info (fishersofmen)

Lake was way up a couple of weeks ago. Last week they lowered it a lot. The weekend it was up a little and Monday morning it was up a little more to almost normal pool and should be that way throughout spring. The water was stained and getting better every day. For me personally I like green pumpkin and junebug colors for plastics, black and blue and green pumpkin jigs and old school chrome rattle traps. C-rig lizards.. Those are just my favorites..

10-4. Thanks for the info. I am really excited about seeing the place for the first time. Good thing I am already pretty stocked on these colors and have a few old school traps myself. Heading up there next Thursday morning. Couple of days off work and a new lake. Life is good.

We are getting a cool snap this weekend and might push them back a little but the pattern was shallow Sat. and Sun. The majority of what I caught was on a watermelon pearl yum dinger, weightless and retrieve it almost like a slow jerk bait action texas and wacky.(I used texas until they tore the worm u then I wacky rigged it ) They are forging on shad. Everyone I caught spit up shad after shad and the shad are shallow getting ready to spawn... You might be getting here just at the right time

swimming it weightless through submerged grass or pads I assume. So the bass must be just getting ready to pull up or have they already spawned out?

I will be there during the same time. From what I have heard and read the bass will be in various stages, pre spawn, spawn and post depending on where you are, etc on the lake. I fully expect to find fish shallow as well as in 6-8 feet of water(staging). Last year at this time I did well with lipless rattle baits and tex rig. plastics. Looking forward to it and I think things will be settled down from all the weather related issues the past couple of weeks.

Yes over the grass, No pads yet,.The bass are in pre spawn right now. G'ville acts funny during the spawn. There have been bass caught in July with eggs. I use crank baits and down scan to find new grass. look for little buds on the grass from your crank baits, Anywhere you find budding grass fish it thoroughly. Throw and try everything..

Good deal. That is some good info. Thank you. We will be staying at a State Park there with some lodge and cabins from what I understand. Does this sound familiar? If so, what are some areas around there to try. Also, we have heard of a bridge that has a bunch of stumps around both sides. Any ideas?

around the state park area Spring Creek and Short Creek. Guntersville is loaded with stumps, around the channel ledges and creek ledges seem to the best productive ones.

Sounds like a great fishery. Loaded with stumps. Are channels well cleared and maintained to be able to run or is it a real dangerous lake to any running?

Only thing to watch out for are boaters and with these heavy rains debris. The channels are marked really well.
