    Yates Lake

Anyone know anything about this place? I had never even heard of it untill yesterday. I was talking to an older gentlemen who said he fishes it for the yellow perch but has also done quite well on LM bass in there.
I did find out its below the dam on Martin but could not find an address to a boat ramp there. The states website was not working when I tried to get to boat ramp locations.

The old fella you was talking to is correct yellow perch is fun fishing on that lake - the ramp is at the end of county road 30 per google maps - I have fished it for the past 6 years and have a great time because there is no traffic - the large mouth fishing can be good and the stripe fishing can get good if you find them schooling - just be careful up river near the dam it flattens out and is between 6 and 10 in some areas.

by the way the locals call it the middle pond.

Love the lake. It is normally where we go for the BBC July tournament because of all the boat traffic on the other lakes.

Got this one out of Yates

Go to Martin. Yates is very spotty. Most days are not good fish days.

Thats OK Brian, I'm sure Eddie don't catch them like that often so he's welcome to show it off on my post.....
Well it looks like I will hit Martin Saturday morning, can anybody give me a clue as to what to expect? I have never been on the lake before and have no idea where to start. Is one end any better than the other? Also, any grass anywhere?

the tourney is out of wind creek unless the votes change - that is the north side of the lake - to run to the south side will take you a while and with out GPS you will get lost - it does not matter where you go on martin you will find what we call lake martin specials (12 inch skinny fish) - i have always heard elcahatchee creek is good but have not proved that to be true - sandy creek has been stocked with Florida strain large mouth for the past few years.

Don't think you will find any grass, but there are brush piles on points and around piers. The farther south you go the clearer the water will be unless you can find some stain in the creeks. Wes is correct about getting lost , so use your map. Also be mindfull of long shallow points. Take wide turns. Elkahatchee is a good creek fish the points in there. You will not be alone since it is a popular place.
Rick and I are talking about going Sat to Wind Creek, so holler at us.
