    Lay Lake / Gator

Had a friend at work show me a pic of a 8ft gator, said it was on lay lake, I believe he said two or three creeks past the steam plant on the left. Anybody else know about this gator or seen it yourself. He was guessing at the length by it being as long as there pontoon boat wide. Known him for over 30 years and he promised it was real. Said they ran into it after it came off the bank. Didn't tell him they will rub there back on the bottom of the boat, guess it feels good to them. Happened a lot while fishing in LA.

I have also heard many people seeing one up by the steam plant but I have not personally seen it.

I've seen one in the back of yellowleaf right there at the steam plant. I personally have seen it so I know it exists.

Wonder if we could talk it into coming down stream for a while, just long enough to get rid of a few jet skies and skiers

Re: Lay Lake / Gator (CRIMSONGAMBLER)

Saw one last year while prefishing for an event in April, It was up the river, there is a creek on the right right before you get to the RR bridge, that creek opens into a small flat, Saw one in there that was around 7 feet long. Didnt think much of it, guess they are not too common on Lay??? Hell down here you cant go 50 yards without seeing a gator in the spring/summer.

Mike,....that may be the very reason that it is where it is now,....someone got fed up with water turds and imported an alligator.....we need to populate the entire Coosa chain with gators,.....maybe we could start having more txs at Eufaula, Millers Ferry and Seminole and just bring a few (little ones) home in the live well......

or we could spread rumors to the surrounding news papers and news medias about the attack incidents that we fishermen are witnessing where young water turd operators and skiers are being pulled under by monster gators. Expand the details to include bodies being torn apart and eaten, blood red water slicks, small body parts floating.......explaining in great detail the horror screams that come from the victims as their bodies are torn to shreds..........

.......paint the picture of the great gator slinging the helpless victim as guts, blood and other human remains fly in every direction.........maybe a few photos of our boats with pigs blood splattered across our boat hull....

    .....just a thought.................

Great Idea Rick.... Only problem is all that you said above don't work on Eufaula there still hundreds of them on the water. I will say this though you don't see any in the back of creeks or up in the smaller creeks, they pretty much stay in the big water

Re: Lay Lake / Gator (poison)

you fish Eufuala enough and 8' gators don't bother you.... it is the ones that are almost the length of of my ranger and wider than an ax handle that get me nervous.

i have always wondered why you didn't see more on lay as it is very similar to Eufaula in water quality and habitat. guess they just stay out of site.

Re: Lay Lake / Gator (swilliams)

agree with swilliams over here on the hooch you just ignore them but if you wanna get them fired up run a buzz bait or frog across there nose. Caught them on everything from crank baits to trick worms but top water drives them crazy.

As for the pleasure boaters the grass pisses them off enough after they but throw a few gators in with the grass an they get scared

we can ship them by the boat loads. lol

Re: Lay Lake / Gator (CRIMSONGAMBLER)

I'm pretty sure I've seen the gator you're talking about. Up river from the steam plant on the left (traveling up river). Small creek widens out about 50-60 yards off river and there's a small "island" where it widened. If it's the same one I saw, he's at least 7 feet and likely 8 feet. We saw it coming off the island once we made our way back through the initial section.

I only had my camera phone on me at the time and didn't get close enough to where I would have gotten a good picture anyway if I had tried.

I was really skeptical up until I saw it, even as we made our way back into the creek.
