    Graphs in cold weather??

    Guys,
i know this is probably a dumb question, but for you guys up north, what do y’all do special with graphs in cold weather?

Ive always just pulled mine off when not in use during the winter, but that’s a giant pain if your fishing back to back days over the weekend...

ive always been told not to leave lcd stuff outside when it’s freezing, what’s your comfort zone? Are these new units designed to handle that stuff better?

    thanks

All the manuals I've looked at say the same thing, 5-131 degrees F. I'm not up north so rarely do I pull my units from the boat. Some years we do have sub-zero temps, and usually a few times single digits. If the forecast is in the low teens, I pull them off.

I keep the rig up in the Saginaw Bay Area and never had a problem until this spring. I had 2 onix both touch screen. One dash mount and one on a Cisco mount. I took the easy one off and left the in dash unit in place. The in dash touch screen quit working. $450 repair. My new Garmins are all in the house warm and toasty.

Ive never had an issue but ive always heard extreme cold (below zero) is not good for the display so I bring them in the house for the winter. Why not only takes 10 min

Lowrance book said good to -30*f and I let it ride last year and -33 for 2 weeks straight. In a detached uninsulated garage. It was fine. It's riding again this year. My gimbal mounted units come in after I throw the towel in for the year. If I still may go fish they are fine on the boat

There are two temperature specifications, operating and storage. The ones I posted earlier were operating temp. Lowrance post the same operating temps as for the HDS Carbon. I would expect that the storage temps would also be near identical. Extreme temps, low and high may be survivable. But with cold comes contraction and heat produces expansion. I'm confident that such extremes with repetition, sooner or later will produce some sort of failure. How many repetitions to a failure, MTBF, is not something I have seen published and may not even be tested. I doubt if we have any volunteers up north to leave their unt outside every night and bring it in every day to see just how many times it would take.
