I got a friend with a 99 tr20 and his livewells have brand new pumps but for some reason he has to back up to get the pumps to start pumping. one pump will work without having to back up but the other pump you have to back the boat up to get pump to start pumping. you guys got any ideas
The pumps that do not work need to be turned 180 degrees and reinstalled. They are allowing water to drain out of them and creating a vacuum. Therefore in order to break the vacuum, he must put the boat in reverse and force water into the pumps.
so it need to be turned upside down 180 degrees? or does it need to be installed 180 degrees as in reinstalled in opposite directions.
The part of the pump that the livewell hose connects to (barbed fitting) needs to be positioned as high as possible. Not pointing down or pointing below the 3 oclock position. Keep it between 10-2 oclock position and all will be good.
