    weight=speed

got a question for the gurus. I am thinking of puttin the ole blazer on a diet and was wondering if anyone might know of how many pounds off might equal to a MPH gain...Have to buy new batteries and since i have 4 the different brands have many different weights, some as much as 80 pounds difference more or less for all 4...

I'm not a guru at this but when I add a pass at 170# and 50# of his tackle I loose about 4mph. This being said I am at a disadvantage as I run at 4350 ft elevation. Not sure what the diff would be at a lower elevation. I run a Stroker/300xs/1.75 sporty.

My 2 Blazer's were more weight sensitive than the Stroker's I have run, by quite a bit.

IMO, I would select a set of the highest end batteries that you are willing to spend that meet the cranking and trolling requirements for your rig/motor combo. They are generally lighter than the cheapest batteries, but you pay for it.

This way, you will save some weight, pick up some speed, and most importantly, have appropriately sized batteries.

    Re: weight=speed (blair)

thought about that, wanted the diehard platinums but they weigh 75 pounds each, ac delco weigh 60 each and Optimas weigh 59 each. All 3 brands are good batteries but a huge difference in weight that was why the questions on weight versus speed. When you add 4 batteries it could be 60 pounds plus added and dont want a slower boat. I was just curious if any others had went through this dilema, thanks guys...ohhhh and by the way Blair thanks for the help with that Harley I really appreciated that. Between you and Lou it was possible and I absolutely love it, thanks again will never be able to thank ya'll enough for that one...

Well I just have to add my .02 on this.
If you really want to cut back on weight then only run three batteries. Use the cranking battery for your third trolling motor battery and with the savings of only buying three go with the Optimas. That would be only 177lb (3) vs the 300lb (4) for the Diehard. 123lb savings in batteries alone is huge. I would also have a Stealth 1 battery charger in the boat. Best charger on the market and also the lighest!!!

    Re: weight=speed (spider1)

thanks spider for the heads up, really appreciate that. It does have the stealth pro charger in it, and you are absolutely right, the best charger out there Love it and have never had a dead battery since i bought the boat new. Also I have alot of electronics plus use the trolling motor alot when I am out will just 3 total batteries work? It has a phase III yammy will it have enough juice to turn it over? Never heard of that one before, thanks again

    Re: weight=speed (BlaznbyU)

My boat came with a 3 battery 36V setup. And when you are on the troller & run the livewell & electronics allday, cranking becomes an issue. I'm lucky I had jumper cables in the boat. I have since converted to 4 batteries, with 2 of them parallel. This doubles cranking amps, cpapcity, and they get charged any time the big motor is running. It's not worth the 1 mph difference to run 1 less battery for me.

    Re: weight=speed (John Jackson)

I dont know if an all day drain would hurt me that much with the stealth pro charger since it charges all of the batteries when the big motor cranks and the cranking battery is charged back up,,, Decisions decisions, lol lol

    Re: weight=speed (BlaznbyU)

You know that everything is a trade off. I ran a two battery for years without a problem. Only using a 24v tm.

I think that with the stealth you will not have a problem.
Give it a try and if it does not work out for ya you can put the 4th battery back in. Just bring jumper cables just in case, much lighter then the extra battery.

Jason and Lou were waaaaaaay more help than me, but glad you are enjoying it !!!

If you fish many tourneys, I would go with more batteries. Inevitably, you will be on that troller and livewell pumps HARD, and may have a problem cranking....it is no fun. If you rarely fish them, the other options may be more to your liking.
