    Alternator

    Hey guys...I posted this on the Mercury motors section also..my son Has a 225 Opti DFI 05 Model motor..he has gone thru 4 alternators in 6 mos...3 re-built and one new arco,it just bought the farm his gauge will spike to 16 volts..stay a few seconds and then drop..when it does this they are history..he has brand new batteries..brand new belt..this thing is eating alternators..any ideas???

    Perhaps Jason (1outlaw) can chime in on this..........he has some history with alternator problem solving............

    I had the same problems!!!!...... First off use a reputable rebuilder!!!...Apparently they like to repair instaed of replace

    What i found was a a broken wire inside of the connecter going into the alternator.

    I was thinking along the same lines. If it is spiking, then somewhere you are losing contact with the battery. It could be a connector, or a circuit breaker.

    No...havent got it yet..boat is in the shop..trying to find the problem..real irritating

    Got the boat back Friday...compressor leak per the mechanic..moisture getting into the alternator and frying it...time will tell...Thanks
