Minn Kota maxxum pro 101 issue?

I have a minnkotta maxim 101 with lift assist and built in transducer. Recently the motor is giving me issue. When I press the button for it to go , sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. When is does not work, I can either press the pedal real hard in one direction, or lift the motor and tap it off the base and it will start working? Anyone know what my issue could be or how to fix it.

Look on the foot pedal under the foot switch. You will, see a little tube with two small wires coming from it. It’s called a reed switch, with a knife blade or small flat screw driver, raise it just a hair and try it. If you go too high the motor will run constantly, back it down a hair. If you still have trouble, remove the cap off the head and check the large red and black wire splices. The splice will be covered with shrink wrap, sometimes the splice will overheat and burn. Having to lift the motor makes me think it might be the wire splices.

This sounds more like an open armature than a reed switch problem.
