    Autochart Pro questions

Thinking about buying the Autochart pro Card to do some better mapping on a few local lakes. Here's my question, after you create the new map, can you still use the shallow water and depth highlights like you can with a regular lakemaster?

The part I am curious on is, when i have my regular lakemaster plus card, I turn on a depth highlight so it makes it easier to follow a depth or follow a break. If i record a map with autochart pro, will i be able to do the same thing?

Wow, what a confusing read that was.

He's asking about autochart pro, not autochart live.

Yes, autochart pro creates lakemaster maps. You can do anything with them that you can do with a normal lakemaster map - including ftc, depth highlight, color palate selection, and anything else.

Well at least someone did. LOL.

It's pretty sad when the HB pros can answer a question in one sentence that takes me 4 or 5 long ass posts with pictures. I don't even know what "autochart pro" is. In my pea brain it's all just "autochart" and all part of the same process.

I figured it would be best to just pull it all down before I confused you guys any more and embarrassed myself further.

I'm trying to learn all I can about it. Autochart, of whatever type, will probably be my next expenditure. I just added a Helix 7 SI G2N to the console and networked with the Ultrex and Helix SI G2N on the bow. I haven't been too interested in Autochart with just the one Helix on the bow. Didn't really see charting a large area on the trolling motor.

My other obstacle is that I'm completely Mac around here. I can't believe that HB can't make that app run on OS. The only access I have to a PC is my wife's old laptop that she uses to log into work. It's running something old like Windows XP or something...I'm not up on Microsoft stuff.

There are two computer software products that create Auto Chart maps from recorded sonar logs--Auto Chart and Auto Chart Pro.
Those products come with a Zero Line card to display maps created with the software on Humminbird units like Lakemaster maps are.

Auto Chart Live is a different map creation software that is in Helix, ONIX, and SOLIX units. It uses a different file format.
Auto Chart Live data is always an overlay on whatever map background your units has.
Auto Chart Live data can be translated to Auto Chart format with those two software products.

You can have Auto Chart Live and Auto Chart on the same Zero Line card.

I would agree with trying to do maps from the bow. I've completely mapped 2 100 acre lakes and one took 5-6 hours and the other about 8.

Autochart live taught me things about one of those small lake I didn't know and I've spent a couple hundred days on it. I personally think it's incredibly helpful. The color shading it uses for depth just works for my brain.

I could not figure out a way to make the autochart live data work with my Ultrex. I think that is because its an overlay. The maps I make on the PC and use as a baselayer do work with my Ultrex (not sure if I'm using Pro version or not).

The PC software is incredibly confusing and, to me, buggy. There is a tutorial but I couldn't figure that out to save my life (it tells to look for a file that is in a hidden directory on a PC). I still can't do things like create a shoreline (which I've since given up on). My PC version doesn't save my recordings where it says it's supposed to in the tutorial. It crashes a lot. For the first 2 or 3 days I used my PC version my maps wouldn't save to an Autochart live SD card and then 1 day it just decided to work. I've deleted error recordings (like when I forgot to stop recording and loaded my boat) over and over and over and they keep coming back (which I've since given up on). I can't get the side imagine mosaic to work (which I've since given up on).

It was a LOT of trial and error to get my 2 maps made and I couldn't find a good source to get my questions answered (which was probably my fault). But my maps are incredibly accurate vs the Navionics maps of these same lakes. And being able to see your lake in 3D is awesome. You can rotate it and flip it around. It's pretty cool.

Thanks Wayne. I think you told me this about a year ago when I was struggling with autochart and I apologize that it didn't stick.

What Humminbird unit / units do you have?

I have auto chart pro, and pc. My biggest concern is a virus, that would ruin my data. I have had some bad experiences with being hacked, and all computers held for ransom. My friend is a certified high level tech,he told me that the#1 issue is Facebook, and others. He builds computers and business networks, he said I could have a stand alone laptop, with a separate disc drive/reader,along with a high speed card reader. And keep it locked, and not connected to any device that has a direct cable connections that can allow social media intrusions . I was confused. Then he showed me how he has his shop set up. He uses a download program to intercept any unwanted data, or logger hacks. So, I am having a custom laptop being built. I already have a dedicated laptop for my music studio, that is not connected to an internet gateway. I learned the hard way, about piracy.in the music industry. If it's not copywrite, registered, protection, nothing is sacred. I had to sue an individual that plagiarized some of my content, if it wasn't for the fact that, he could not write or read music on a score, and I had the only written copy.that he was playing and recording at local venues, that a friend knew wasn't his. He was charged for piracy, for which is considered a felony offense instead of plgarism, which is a misdemeanor. Still waiting for payments. Probably have his wages garnished.he has a good job, it just takes time!?

in syncros's pictures he has a multi colored map . What settings make those colors ? I have auto chart pro and when I have the map on the computer I can have many colors but when I put it in my 998 and try to change colors it only changes to muiltiple shades of blue .I can do a depth range highlight which is red . I like the look of the first picture better than a so called monochromatic blue .
