    1994 Stratos 275 control removal?

Trying to remove the shifter controls from a 1994 275 I picked up. Anyone that give me some pointers on removing the shifter handle?
IF I were guessing, I would say remove the gas tank and have enough room to do the job?
OMC controls still in it. But Has a 2007 Suzuki DF140 on it. Removing the Suzuki and harness to put on a different boat. Will be putting a 2006 Johnson 2 stroke back on it. Below is the same shifter handle on mine. But not my boat in the pic.

Handles off, just want to find the best way to remove the part in the back. Before I undo the front screw's.

Thanks in advance for any advice on this.

Handles off now to get the rest out of the side of the boat. Without taking a saw to it. But may do that if it comes to it. But the boats in nice shape with great carpet.

Hope to test this out tomorrow. But thinking If I remove the cables from the motor. Let the inside part of the shifter fall down. Push it out towards the console, it should come out? Not sure, but its coming out one way or the other.

Hope this will help out someone else. Took throttle and shifter cable off the engine. Stretched them out behind the transom. Dropped the shifter into the side of the boat. Was able to reach back from under the console. Get a finger on the shifter part. Took a few minutes to work around the wires. But its out and at that time. Removed cables from the shifter. Marking both cables and the way they go back on.
Pulled the cables out the back of the boat. Unhooked the wiring harness from the engine. unhooked the tilt and trim from it. Got all the wiring harness out and back up to the Console also. Plus got the Seastar steering and hoses out today also. Tomorrow I will remove the gauges I need to get out of the Console.
Then start removing the 2006 Johnson 90hp 2 stroke off my Xpress X19. This 2007 Suzuki Df140 (364 hours on it) and steering's, going on it. Got the Stratos and engine at a good price. So using all this on the X19. Putting the Johnson back on the Stratos and selling it. Other than some wet sanding and buffing. The 94 275 looks be in great shape.
