E tec HO compared to E tec

What is the difference between an E tec HO versus a regular E tec? Sorry to sound like a dumb question, but I am going to buy a 150 E tec so just curious as to the difference (s) My dealer saiys it is $700 more in price, so what would you get in this price upgrade? Thanks for any input.

Different lower unit, and graphics on the motor. The HO is " factory tuned for high performance" which tells me nothing. However I would surmise the engine puts out about 165 hp instead of just 150.

Most people report the HO to be a very strong motor. I wish I could afford one, I would love to upgrade.

Thanks Lockjaw. I am going to the dealership tomorrow to sit down and work up a deal on an Alumacraft Navigator 175 CS with this 150 Etec on it. I am not sure if it is worth it to spend $700 more to go with the HO model or not. I bet this would be a smokin fast ride though. Thanks for the input.

Thanks for the info guys. I just ordered my boat at the dealer today and I went with the E tec 150 HO on an Alumacraft Navigator 175 CS. Dealer said Alumacraft tested this set up and it ran Speedometer at 67 MPH !!! This boat will be Scary Fast !!!!!!!!! NEED for SPEED LOL!!!

I think the speed is a bit optimistic but you will have a great performing rig anyway. Most boats lose about 5-10 mph when they leave the dealership.

I hear ya on losing 5 to 10 mph. Although we think we get a good deal on Cars, boats etc when we buy, we all get hosed in the endLOL!!!!!

I think you get a better prop as well, a Raker II is standard on the HO.
I have been told the 150 HO puts out 167-168 hp on the prop-shaft.

I went from 52mph to 60mph when I upgraded from the 1998 Johnson 150 to a 2007 150HO ETEC. Through the increase in MPH was great I actually like the fuel economy increase much more. The MPH increase was verified with the 2 GPS's unit I have onboard and one handheld.

As much as I give BRP static on some of their advertising and all that, I do like their Ho150 Etec. It would likely be my choice if I were going to repower.

I would love to see a comparison of the three DFI 150's on a fairly decent hull, one that would get into the mid 60's so we could see how they run.

I am with you Lockjaw, I would hate to get rid of my old cross-flow, buy a new HO 150 Etec and not be any faster than my old 1985 XP 150.

Sorry to bust your buble rogbu but the dealer sold you a bill of goods. Should have saved the 700 ?? cause a 1200+ lb V bottom is not going to break 60 with a 150 even if it is a HO. Go to Alalumacrafts website and check out a 175 sport(same hull) with a regular E-tec 150 on it. A little over 51 mph. I'd ask the dealer for a little refund, sorry if that sounds harsh but I had a similar thing happen to me when I bought my Crestliner(smaller but same hull design) dealer said it would run mid 30's with a 50 hp. it would only run 28 so I ended up getting a good deal on a 75.

Thanks Hawkeye, I have to agree with you. I saw the reviews from Alumacraft well before I bought the boat. Any salesman that works on a percentage to pay the bills will "Fluff" things up to secure the sale. I really liked the white motor and the standard Stars n Stripes decal that come on the HO motor and the BEST PART OF ALL, my wife told me that she would pay the extra to upgrade so she wouldn't have to listen to me later saying "I wish I would have gotten the HO version." That was fine with me. LOL Also, it made it easier to seal the deal that the particular dealer I went with came in a $3000 less with the HO version included as opposed to two other dealers that were pricing just the regular 150 E TEC with the package. I will still enjoy the boat. I don't make long runs so if I can get 50 ish out of it going from spot to spot I will be happy. I am a Musky fisherman so peed is not critical to me. I would rather keep my lure in their face than boat ride .I'll let you guys know how fast the rig will run when I get on the water. Also, for down the road when the boat has seen her better days, it should help in selling it with having the MAX HP + allowed on the boat. Thanks for the input.
