What is the difference between these boats?
What is the difference between these boats?
7", a few mph, and a different feel when driving each. 200 is rated for 225. 201 is rated for 250 (or 300 if Magnum equipped).
The newer 200's only have a single box up front, where as the older 200's and all 201's have the dual front boxes ('03 and up).

Do they use the same hull just 7" shorter?
No. Completely different, thus the difference in driving characteristics.
The 200 is an old Javelin hull.
I had a 200 and absolutely loved it. Then the next two years I ran 201's. I stepped back in a 200 at the Stratos dealer's meeting and it took me a bit to get used to it again. The 200 is more of a Mustang feel, compared to the 201's Lincoln feel (about the best way to describe it).

Which one has the deepest "Vee" and smoothest rough water ride?
To each his own. I felt they rode pretty similar in rough stuff.

If you are looking at buying one or the other hands down the 201 with a 250 is the better choice.IMO..It is easier to drive. You have to drive a 200. My 200 with a 225 runs 77 a 201 with a 250 etec will run mid 80's.

You think mid 80s? I have a 201 w/ an HPDI 225 and mine barely does 70. 25 hp makes that much difference?!

I keep hearing about these mid 80's Evo with stock 250 power. I know of one, certainly the one in a million hulls that just ran great. I have 400 hp pulling big props to the limiter and run mid to upper 80's. My props are the best that can be bought, tuned to my boat by Mark, some with multiple trips to Indiana to maximize performance I might be a crappy boat driver, but, Mike Lohn and Jason Phillips have driven to the same numbers I have, so I think it is probably doing what it can do. These are loaded to fish numbers as are most of the numbers posted. I really think 78 to 80 would be real good numbers on a Evo 201 with stock 250 power. Not saying anyone is exaggerating, or trying to start a gunfight, just making a personal observation. Those that know say 1 mph for each additional 10 hp up to a certain point.

only way my 201 with a 250 vmax does mid 80's is either driving it off niagra falls or behind my yukon on interstate 94.
Craigs boat would go 10 faster if he'd empty out the tackle store......i mean boat.![]()

Mike L, Nate and Jeremy helped me empty it once. Made about 1 mph diff. Tackle is not that heavy, I bet I have less than 150 lbs including tools, rain suits, etc. Bulk of that is behind the console. Less than a fishing partner would weigh. I know HT and C&O set speed runs with a splash of gas, no TM and one battery. I might get 3 mph with all of that removed. What I told you at PW recently, you are running good with your boat. Honest mph is good for that tackle bote![]()

I know yesterday we were running 75 at 5050 rpm. He is breaking in a new powerhead. By the way not an evo hull 08 classic hull. Not sure that makes any difference.
I've had one 200PXL with a Merc 225 PXS and it was a 78 mph boat going fishing with a 27 Tempest. It would barely hit 80 when it was empty of fuel and tackle. I've had two 201PXL's. One had the Merc 250 PXS and would break 80 with all my gear and full tank of gas, but was runing a Boger 27 Trophy that was tuned for it. It would run 82 mph completely empty. The other had a 250 HPDI and the best I saw out of it going fishing was 77 mph. I currently have a 201 Evo and it will hit 80 with a stock 26 Tempest at 6000 RPM. Looking at buying a Fury for it now to see what else I can squeeze out of it.
The 201 is easier to drive than the 200. I had the opportunity to meet Alan Stinson one time and he told me that the 200 has an 11.5" pad and the 201 has a 13.5". That's what makes the 201 easier to drive. The 200 has better hard turn handling (IMO) than the 201, and they are both comparible in the rough stuff. The 200 began as the Javelin 400 hull and became the Javelin 200. When Stratos and Javelin merged brands it became the new Stratos 200 PXL. Great performance hull. The reason I went to the 201 was because my wife was more comfortable with its turning. It stays more flat than the 200. The 200 turns like a fighter jet banks in its turns. In the end you will love either boat you choose.
Good luck and keep us posted.![]()

I had an '05 200 with a 225 H.O. E-TEC. It only had a 6" plate. The best props for it were a 28 old style Raker (78 light/76 loaded), and an original 29 ASX (80+ light/78 loaded). I had a couple of 201's with 250 Yammies. They were 79 mph boats light and 76-77 mph loaded. They both ran 27 T-1 props. All of the props I have ever run were all stock. I have never paid to have work done on a prop so I'm sure there may have been a little more there.
I consider myself a pretty decent driver too.
The 200 does corner better in the hard turns. The 201 will skip a little bit if the weight is off-balance. I had one 201 go into a slide with me also. We were running in some skinny water and I jumped out of it to set down. When I did the motor came out of the water and the boat basically went into a drift. It wasn't a hook...just a high speed, oh my good gracious, huh...that was almost kind of cool, slide.![]()
The 200 has a little more of a steepness/V coming from the nose. The 201 lays out a little flatter as it goes toward the nose.
The driver has a lot to do with how the boat rides. I've had folks ride with me that have been amazed and said that their 200/201 doesn't ride nearly as good as mine. But then I can duplicate it in there boats and they seem surprised.![]()

I don't disagree with that. I have a good friend that ran a 294 with a Yam 200 for a few years. It is definitely more hands on than the 200, but when comparing the 200 to the 201, the 201 is an easier boat to drive at top end speed. The 201 Evo is by far the easiest to drive high performance bass boat I've ever drove and its ride is one of the softest too. I'm hooked on the Evo.
