    Extremely Hard To Steer

I have a '94 275 w/ an '03 150 Johnson, would it be better to upgrade to hydraulic steering or just replace steering cables? Or is there any way to loosen the cable i have?

The hydro steering is not much more wwork then replacing the cable, my boat now has the hdri steering and man what a difference, no steering torque, and almost efffortless steering, even under power!Only way to go if you can afford it!

I had the same problem and yesterday stripped the rack on my steering cables. It got so hard to steer that it would take 2 hands with all I could muster to turn the wheel. I removed the dual cable out of the boat in @ one hour. Where is the best place to get the replacement cables SSC135 13? Most of the prices I've found are in the $325 range. Thanks for letting me tag along this thread.

http://www.jamestowndistributors.com they have some good prices on the cables. Pitstop marine (board sponsor) sells both the Uflex (Italian) and the Teleflex (Canadian) systems the Uflex is cheaper due to the dollar. Good unit.

    Re: (jim d)

i was riding in my friends boat about three weeks ago and where the cables connect to the rack came apart going about 60mph, the boat turned very quickly and ejected me. my friend (driver) come across the boat and messed his head up pretty bad, i recommend hydro steering, trust me it hurts
